Our Structures Department is responsible for all structural inspections, construction site supervision, design of remedial works to existing structures and new design on behalf of the Authority. Unlike typical local authority teams, our policy promotes in-house engineering works wherever possible. About us

Listed below are a small selection of the many and varied schemes our team have worked on over the past 12 months:

  • General and principal inspections of highway bridges within the county.
  • Full detailed design of a reinforced concrete retaining wall with 2m retained height and 105m length for a housing project.
  • Full detailed design of a replacement reinforced concrete ballast wall to an existing bridge, following issues arising from excessive thermal movements.
  • Detailed analysis and re-design of a 13m three span timber footbridge to replace an existing defective structure.
  • Replacement of an existing bridge expansion joint including detailed drawings, contract documents, specification and an analysis of thermal movements for the existing structure.

Role purpose

Assist in providing and apply engineering skilled services within the Structures Team of Caerphilly County Borough Council’s (CCBC) Engineering Projects Group. The Structures Team is responsible for all structural inspections, construction site supervision, design of remedial works to existing structures and new design on behalf of the Authority.

For the role, we ask that you have

  • Level 6 (Degree) in Civil Engineering or relevant equivalent qualification
  • A logical approach to problem solving
  • Awareness of Civil Engineering working practices
