We are searching for Graduate Medical Underwriters to join Capita and grow our underwriting section of the business. We already have a long-standing team in place working on our Zurich account and over the next 6 months we are looking to add more Underwriters to the team due to the demand within the business.

These are UK based homeworking positions offered on a full-time permanent basis. Comprehensive training and full support is provided from day 1 to give you the tools required to become a fully qualified Medical Underwriter.

What you’ll be doing

  • Assessment of Life, Critical Illness, Income Protection, and pension plans for the New Zurich Life – including analysis of medical, pursuits, occupations, and financial information.
  • Deciding on the information needed to assess an application and then the terms on which and applicants will be accepted. This includes applying ratings excluding risks, postponing or declining applications.
  • Regular telephone contact with financial advisers, customers and third parties.
  • Involvement in specialist underwriting roles after some experience in the underwriting role e.g. Overseas and Reasurrance.
  • Involvement in training both in house and externally.  

Your experience will include

  • An interest in human biology/physiology – most of the initial training course is based on the human body systems diseases and disorders.
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • Confidence to make decision and justify these within specific guidelines
  • An analytical mind and good at solving problems.
  • Commitment to an intensive training course with time for home study during evenings and weekends. Also, commitment to study for professional (CII) qualifications after an initial period of familiarisation in the underwriting role.
  • Good communication skills both orally and written
  • Flexible and able to adapt to a changing environment.
