You may even secure a training contract by the end of your first year of university (or second year if you are on a four-year degree).

Experience and skills

You do not need to have prior legal experience or a law degree to apply to us. As our SPARK Scheme may lead to a Training Contract, we will expect you to be a problem-solver with strong communication skills and commercial acumen. The competencies that we look for in our SPARK interns (and trainees) include:

  • Business awareness
  • Leading and managing
  • Problem solving with commercial insight
  • Relationship building and networking
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written)
  • Ability to identify legal vs business issues

You will be in your first year of study, or your second year if you are completing a four year degree. 

If you are a law student then you should be able to start a Training Contract in 2024, and if you are a non-law student then you should be able to start in 2025. 

Application process

Applications open on 3rd August 2020 and close at midnight on 10th December 2020.  We do not recruit on a rolling basis and we do not review applications until after the deadline has passed. We will only review the information on your application form at the point of submission - any changes made after this will not be taken into consideration so please refrain from making any changes after you have submitted.

Shortly after submitting your application, and if you fall into the target groups, you will receive an email from us asking you to complete an online Watson Glaser critical reasoning assessment. This takes approximately 30 minutes and should be completed within 5 days of receiving our email with instructions.

The assessment days for our SPARK Scheme will take place in London from the week commencing 18th and 25th January 2021. 

Our SPARK Scheme is open to first year undergraduate students on a three year degree, or second year undergraduate students on a four year degree. You are not eligible to apply to any other roles (Training Contract or IGNITE). For exceptional students the SPARK Scheme may lead to a Training Contract. If you are a law student then you should be able to start a Training Contract in 2024, and for non-law, 2025.
