We have a great opportunity for a Apprentice Community Relations Officer - for start in 2022

The Apprentice Community Relations officer will support the project team with all matters relating to the customers, communities and stakeholders that are affected by the delivery of our major projects.

About the project

The Regional Delivery Partnership is a framework contract with Highways England for the development, design and construction of capital road projects that form part of the Regional Investment Programme during Road Period 1 (2015 to 2020) and Road Period 2 (2020 to 2025). The Costain Jacobs Partnership were awarded two lots; Lot 7 (East Region) & Lot 8 (North Region). This vacancy relates to Lot 8 for the delivery of 3 schemes along the A1 corridor in Newcastle and Northumberland, with combined scheme budgets in excess of £550M. 

A1Scotswood to North Brunton – Construction March 2020 – late 2022

A1 Birtley to Coal House – Construction March 2021 – late 2023 

A1 in Northumberland – Construction March 2021 – late 2024

The current early works are being undertaken in Stockton and Leeds (with our designers Jacobs) but will move to the north east prior to construction. It is essential that applicants are willing to travel to and work in the north east.

Key Responsibilities

  • A point of contact for enquiries and complaints coming into the project
  • Support the team in maintain relationships with stakeholders and customers, including personal visits and land access consents
  • Attend public meetings, exhibitions, and events
  • Assist with production of content for internal and external communications, reports and presentations, including social media
  • Support with the Considerate Constructors Scheme
  • Support STEM (Science Technology Engineering Maths) events and activities
  • Support charity/Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives
  • Support with the production and submission of performance reporting metrics
  • Support the wider Community Relations and Customer teams across the framework

What does joining an apprenticeship with Costain offer?

There are a wide range of apprenticeships available, both in levels of qualification and length of study
At Costain we have a variety of apprenticeships on offer, working on projects around the UK, in sectors including nuclear, highways, rail. Water, airports, and tunnels, and with a number of partners and joint ventures.

The level and training provider for your apprenticeship will depend on the skills you present at interview. The Early Careers team will register you with a suitable training provider who can support the delivery of your qualification. Being an apprentice means you will work both on-the-job with your project at site, and off-the-job with the provider.

When taking on one of the many apprenticeships on offer by Costain, you will be supported by your project line manager and team, the Costain Early Careers Team, and the training provider of your academic qualification. The training provider may be a college, a university or even an independent training provider.

You will be supported throughout your apprenticeship by your local team and line manager, and you will be given time to carry out your studies with the provider etc. Your on-the-job training will be in line with the work available on site but will afford the opportunity to ensure that you are given on site experience required to meet the technical and competency levels to achieve your apprenticeship goals
