The role

We run exciting 12-month placements where you are given an opportunity to work in a role and on real projects making a difference in both your team and the company as a whole and currently we are looking for passionate Engineering Placement Students to join our teams based in Daventry and Sandwich. During your placement with us, you will learn how a major global organization operates in addition to on the job training and given the opportunity to take part in a structured Training & Development Programme designed to give the skills and competencies required for future graduate roles.

Across the multiple roles available, you will make an impact in some of the following ways:

  • Demonstrates good understanding and applies knowledge of an engineering/STEM discipline.
  • Uses knowledge of Engineering Standards and Technical Documentation and able to understand and apply structured problem-solving processes to resolve issues.
  • Uses prescribed and innovative methods and works with limited guidance to carry out partially defined and moderately complex tasks. Applies engineering and scientific skills and continues to develop experience in creating engineering solutions.
  • Understand and be able to describe the purpose, content and steps in developing/managing of an engineering design project and able to assists in creating design specifications considering application, cost, weight, performance, product life, manufacture, assembly and service.
  • Understanding of Test Operations and Engine/Component Testing process flow model: Planning, Preparation, Execution, Analysis, Execution.
  • Evaluates customer needs and aligns requirements with identified customer expectations. Applies basic knowledge of engineering principles and practices to assigned tasks in the development, analysis and release of products and subsystems through the product life cycle.
  • Verifies design functionality using computational analysis and or functional testing, interpreting results, driving decisions and assessing risk.
  • Applies the Principles of Fluid Dynamics and Heat Transfer to investigates product, system, and/or technology problems that are related to the engine combustion, performance and emissions.

About you

To be successful in the roles available you will need the following:

  • Studying towards a Degree in Engineering or equivalent related STEM degree discipline (including Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry).
  • Has experience in, and can demonstrate, relevant examples of Cummins core values e.g. voluntary work, community involvement activities, working with disadvantaged groups, charity related support, delivering superior results, teamwork, competencies and outside education experiences.
  • Has clear thought processes and can show a logical approach to tasks, challenges, hobbies etc.
  • Able to work with other engineering and cross-functional disciplines to resolve product issues and able to participate as a team member and actively contributes towards team goals.

To be eligible for our 12 Month work placement you must be a university student who has a placement year option as part of their degree programme. You will spend a year in a specific department to gain real experience in your subject area. You are supported by formal and informal training, and work on projects that add true value to the business.
