About the role

For 2024-2025, Dolby is offering 12-month student placement opportunities starting in July.

The placement is based in our London office. This group is involved with the supporting take-up of new audio and video technologies for the broadcast, consumer electronics, games, music, mobile, online, and PC segments. The European Commercial Partnerships Engineering team focuses on:

  • Long-term technology development and identifying new Audio and Video technology opportunities
  • Direct support to service providers using Dolby equipment
  • Proving products, technology, advice, and expertise to Europe’s leading Broadcasters
  • Supporting the sales team
  • Collaborating with customers and partners on projects involving Dolby technologies

What you'll do

During the 12 months in Dolby London, the placements will involve the following areas:

  • Supporting diverse scope of projects across the team, helping to setup broadcast and online system tests, creating audio and video content for customer demonstrations. Experience will be gained on a wide variety of professional broadcast and consumer equipment incorporating Dolby technologies
  • Working with audio and video content for TV, online and Mobile transmission, customer technology demonstrations and internal product testing of 3rd party products incorporating Dolby technologies. Experience will be gained on professional Non Linear Editing (NLE) tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro\Blackmagic Davinci Resolve, Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) Avid Pro Tools and Reaper Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) software, as well as Dolby’s suite of professional Content Creation Tools
  • Assisting with the maintenance and operation of systems, including picture and sound postproduction tools, media rooms, test tools, digital playback systems, postproduction broadcast processing and storage systems, and internet-based content delivery systems
  • Supporting the sales team in Europe, involving investigations into equipment used by key customers, preparation of AV equipment for specific customer needs, equipment inventories, shipping of equipment to events, supporting demo installation for trade shows and on site demos with customers
  • Opportunity for European travel and customer visits
  • There is opportunity to get involved in some scripting and coding for audio and video if students have interest and aptitude for that work
  • The students will assist with a variety of demanding professional projects and will be given the opportunity to utilize Dolby facilities for their university dissertation project.

This placement provides students with a wealth of practical experience in various aspects of Dolby Technologies, products and offers valuable insight in to broadcast and online systems from production through to distribution. A successful student will join a team of highly experienced broadcast solutions engineers, active in some of the most dynamic and fast-moving market segments. The student will also be given the opportunity to work with the world’s leading audio brand and collaborate with key players from the consumer, broadcast, games, PC, music and mobile industries.

Applicants should be an undergraduate in their second or third year of study within a Technology/Music & Technology or Electronics Engineering discipline. Some technical knowledge and an interest in music and electronics would be highly desirable. Other advantageous strengths are logical and analytical thinking, a strong problem-solving ability, the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and a passion for audio and video. IT and networking skills are becoming increasingly relevant too now for our team.
