Our Graduate Programme
Our Finance graduate programme is designed to develop your career at Dyson with a three-year journey, so you can grow both personally and professionally. We’ll help you to improve your knowledge and support your future career progression with workshops to give you baseline soft skills in addition to technical training. Our unique experiential journey provides a framework so you can reach your full potential with leadership talks, lunch-and-learns and more. You will have the opportunity to rotate into a variety of teams to support your professional development.
About the role
Our Finance Graduates are ambitious, resilient, and tenacious. During the programme, Dyson will train you in everything finance and will support you through your studies to obtain a professional qualification. You will spend 3 years rotating in different areas of finance across the business – supporting our markets, innovation and product, and commercial strategies. The programme aims to equip graduates with the necessary core skills and cross-functional network to value add to Dyson’s business goals and their professional development.
You will spend 12 months each in different core finance function roles during your first 2 years in the scheme:
Commercial/ Group Finance
- Business partner with cross-functional teams on Business Cases and Strategy to access the financial viability of innovations in the new product pipeline. As well as deep dive into the 4 Ps of Finance - Product, Pricing, Performance Reporting & Planning
- Design, develop and run quarterly process to calculate Terms, Promo and Other Cost of Sales inputs for all finished goods development projects
- Business partner different functions, supporting budget development, financial performance management and finance input for decision making/special projects
- Provide timely, accurate and insightful analysis on product cost to support milestone, financial health checks, change management and risk and opportunity tracking.
During your 3rd year, you will spend 6 months within the technical finance functions, and another 6 months within the specialised finance functions.
Technical
- Reporting and track performance of month end procedures, including integrity checks, journal postings, etc
- Supporting the reporting of ‘Exceptional’ spend, including:
- leading the interactions with the James Dyson Foundation
- facilitating their queries and arranging invoicing
- Supporting with ad-hoc statutory tasks, such as the roll forward of Group valuations, mid-year reporting, etc.
- Support general compliance requirements and upkeep of accounting standards
- Perform month-end close activities and providing accurate and timely financial submissions
Specialist
- Tax and Customs: Manages and oversees Customs and International Trade Compliance of Dyson’s businesses, ensuring compliance, trade facility, and enabling cost reduction/savings.
- Treasury: Establishing and maintaining best practice in the Group’s treasury, monitoring of cash flows to ensure our cash targets are met, as well as providing reporting of forecasts to ensure available liquidity.
- Internal Audit: Understand and mitigate key risks to the business by assess the design and operating effectiveness of controls and providing high quality and practical recommendations
- Business Intelligence & Analytics: Understand of how technology and data is used in the Finance function using a variety of tools to develop new data assets, managing data requests, creating and updating of reports etc.
Aside from the above rotations, you will have the opportunity to get exposed to other functions and finance specific development programs (eg. Mentoring, finance info sessions, soft and technical skills training etc). We will also provide study support for the ACCA/ CIMA compulsory study and exams (subject to region requirement) to ensure that you fully qualify as an accountant.
During the programme, you’ll need to demonstrate quick learning and adaptability, and you’ll need to be able to balance the demands of work and study alongside each other. You can expect big responsibility and plenty of autonomy. However, you’ll be supported with a development framework, enabling professional growth, training and opportunities to hone your skills and evolve your knowledge.
About you
You will be contributing to the delivery of the next generation of Dyson technology, so you will need to be:
- Working towards or have achieved a Bachelor degree in Accountancy or Finance (with less than 1 year working experience will be eligible).
- Able to demonstrate how you have applied your technical knowledge and skills (financial, analytical and numerical skills) to solve problems, either through your university projects or past internship experience.
- Committed to learning about finance, how our business operates and the financial considerations that decisions are based upon.
- Happy to build your own networks to collaborate and learn from the experts around you.
- Professional and articulate to actively participate in discussions.
- Passionate about Dyson and our technology to help us meet our ambitious future.
