It’s one thing to solve a problem that’ll change technology forever. But turning that idea into a reality takes solving many more problems – and success is ultimately measured, not by the thinking, but by the product. Our Manufacturing department supports over 1,000 Dyson engineers in the UK and 3,000 worldwide turning ideas into ground-breaking technology.
The successful candidate will be involved in early design concept, identifying, Manufacturing technologies and process, materials, pre-empt production issues and finding ways to build more efficiently and RFT. From advising the design teams on DFx, carrying out proof of principal work, designing the machines, to the machines that build the machines, we’re helping to shape the future of technology.
About the role
Our scale and rapid growth make Dyson rich in new opportunities. Join us as a graduate and from day one you’ll be expected to hit the ground running on one of Dyson’s many live projects, and the chance to have a meaningful impact on the evolution of Dyson technology.
Some of your responsibilities could include:
Provide manufacturing skills in:
Guide the RDD and Manufacturing Engineering teams in best practice regarding assembly and/or component manufacturing processes, specification and of techniques to achieve efficient high-volume manufacture
Work with RDD and Manufacturing Engineering teams to deliver cost efficient manufacturing processes, techniques and equipment whilst ensuring product quality and reliability targets are achieved
Work with contract manufacturing assembly and production providers to ensure solutions are optimised, reliable and meet specification and feedback lessons learnt from the production lines.
Support new product innovation and development and analysis of any failures during engineering and early manufacturing builds
Lead or participate in data driven risk analysis to enable informed review of manufacturing plans
Participate in continuous improvements in product manufacturability
Work in cross functional teams in the UK and SEA
Manufacturing technology development:
Assess the manufacturability / risk associated with a product, compare this to existing capability and map necessary areas for technology development
Work with other engineers, external suppliers and Universities to resolve these capability gaps through manufacturing technology development
Specification, purchase and implementation of Manufacturing equipment for assembly, testing, and component manufacture
Create RFQ specifications for key test equipment where necessary
Proof of Principle – where required develop proof of principle test rigs either internally or with external suppliers to understand manufacturing risk
Assess the process capability of key equipment, using SPC, GR&R or Measurement System Analysis as appropriate
Project manage and oversee implementation of equipment using both internal and external (supplier) resource
Assist in the identification and selection of new manufacturing equipment suppliers
Project and People management skills and experience:
Team working alongside other manufacturing engineers as well as Independent working, self-starter, with good interpersonal skills, and some leadership ability
Understanding of project management, supporting, leading and delivering technology projects into production with flawless launch, meeting productivity & quality targets
Ability to influence decision makers (both technical and non-technical) in a challenging environment
