Dyson is a global technology enterprise. We solve the problems others choose to ignore, with surprising new inventions that defy convention and simply work better. We’re driven by progress and thrive on the challenge of relentless improvement. We’re growing fast and our ambition is huge – more categories, more locations and more people.

The programme will be based in the software team within New Product Innovation (NPI). We are a highly technical, creative and collaborative team made up of engineers with diverse technical backgrounds: App, Cloud, Embedded and Data Science. We partner with teams across Dyson to rapidly refine early product concepts and ideas, by developing working prototypes that de-risk tech and let production teams understand what is required so they can focus on delivering.

We are a growing group, currently split into five interdisciplinary scrum teams. Team members are from diverse educational backgrounds and experience levels.

At Dyson we do things differently. We look for the brightest new interns with the right attitude to thrive in our unique culture. We offer real jobs with real salaries and real prospects. You will have the autonomy and freedom to excel and have real impact on our business. We aim to inspire you to become our future leaders. This is why we need creative thinkers, people who are motivated and drive themselves forward.

    About the role

Our intern programme within the NPI Software Team (NST) has been designed to expose you to software development in Dyson’s early-stage Software team. You will experience working within our multi-disciplinary team learning from their experience and contributing to their delivery. Depending on your skillset you could be working on embedded software for new prototypes, native App experiences using the latest mobile features, Cloud microservices to handle scalable data solutions, or identifying insights and algorithms within Data Science. You will grow your network as you move around and gain an insight of Dyson’s product development from different points of view; this will cover architecting, designing, implementing and testing that is all used to set the vision for our future products.

Our Software group is formed from teams with varied focus and specialisation:

    • Embedded Software – developing platformed drivers and applications running on prototype products (either single-board Linux machines or MCUs) using GoLang, C/C++ and Python, with a significant focus on connectivity and UI.
    • App – building rich user experiences using Swift and Kotlin, using the latest mobile features.
    • Cloud – implementing scalable, secure platforms using micro-services to enable our connected and data experiences.
    • Data – identifying and developing data-driven features using Python, R and SQL within our Data Science teams.

We are based in the centre of Bristol, but you will have the opportunity to spend timing working on our other UK sites with the wider Dyson product teams. As you experience our recruitment process, we assess your skills, capability, and potential to match you to the team. You will also have access to mentors and technical experts across our Software teams who will support you through the programme. We’ll also be looking to offer our high performing interns the opportunity to return on our graduate programme.
