The role

The M25 is one of our Flagship projects in the UK! It is the most used part of the UK Strategic Road Network with it seeing over 200,000 vehicles per day and it’s a critical infrastructure asset for personal and goods vehicles into and around our capital. The network includes around 800 structures and 5 tunnels, so it requires high levels of performance, constant improvement and repairs to keep it operating smoothly.

We’ve formed a Joint Venture project called Connect Plus Services (CPS) to work with our partners to widen, operate and maintain the M25 under a 30-year contract and we are looking for a Junior Highways Design Engineer to provide engineering support with producing design solutions for upcoming highways & pavement renewal schemes around the M25 network. This individual will be expected to assist with method engineering reviews with framework contractors and endure the design is based around safe and efficient construction processes. It will require efficient design coordination reviewing documentation and assistance in managing design workloads.

In turn, this role will provide the individual with projects in which they can have significant design ownership over, leading and directing the design outcome of schemes, supporting with detailed design and then follow through the practical construction onsite across the network.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and agree briefs with the design team and design suppliers, to cover scope, budget and programme, and to obtain agreement from Asset lead.
  • Prepare designs, reports, specifications and other deliverables to budget and programme.
  • Design coordination and preparation and review of contract documentation.
  • Site inspections pre & post works and during construction.
  • Support senior Pavement & Highway Design Engineers as necessary.

About you

Essential

  • Working knowledge and understanding of highway related design areas, including design codes (DMRB/MCDHW/TSRGD etc.) relevant to highway engineering.
  • Working knowledge of CDM and other H&S legislation.

Good to have

  • Membership or working towards membership of an appropriate professional institution (ICE, IStructE or CIHT).
  • College/University vocational qualification. (MEng/MSC/BEng/BSc/HNC and HND).
  • Pavement Engineer Certificate from the institute of Asphalt Technology (however not mandatory)
  • Asset Management experience.
  • Knowledge of the use of relevant computer design applications.
  • Knowledge of the Traffic Signs Manual Chapter 8.
