Element has an excellent opportunity for a Trainee Analyst/Analyst. Your duties will include the preparation and analysis of soil and water matrices using ICP-OES and ICP-MS techniques in accordance with company methods, ensuring that all quality standards required by an ISO17025 accredited laboratory are maintained. Element Deeside is the largest analytical chemistry laboratory within the Element Group and the market leading UK laboratory undertaking the testing of soils, waters, wastes, oils, NAPLs, ambient air, soil vapours and gases from all over the world. 

The laboratory undertakes high volume routine analysis as well as offering bespoke method development, technical support and hydrocarbon forensic interpretations to enhance the support we can deliver. 

The laboratory has an international reputation for service excellence and supports clients that require a higher level of technical expertise, reliability in data quality and seamless project management from sample collection to timely delivery of data.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing standards for calibration and quality purposes
  • Conducting sample preparation and analysis in accordance with company methods and quality procedures
  • Accurate reporting of results using LIMS
  • Ensuring all analytical procedures comply with accreditation quality requirements
  • Instrument calibration, maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Prioritising workloads to ensure work is completed within required turnaround time.
  • Trouble shooting and non-conformance investigation
  • Supporting Senior Analytical Staff in the development, modification and validation of methods
  • Following health and safety procedures

Skills & qualifications

  • A degree in Chemistry or a Chemistry related subject preferred
  • A ‘levels in Chemistry or other science/maths subjects
  • Experience as an ICP Analyst within a commercial analytical laboratory 
  • Alternative qualifications will be considered depending on relevant equivalent experience
  • A highly motivated and organised individual
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and adhere to deadlines
  • Thrives in a high throughput, high quality busy environment
