Facebook Security is looking for a Security Engineer Intern to help us protect Facebook employees and systems from internal and external malicious actors. You will work with other Security Engineers, Software Engineers and Production Engineers to build solutions and policies to detect malicious activity at scale, respond to alerts, investigate and mitigate security incidents. This is a 12 week summer internship opportunity in London.

Your responsibilities 

  • Participate and investigate incidents in a cross-functional collaborative environment
  • Analyze and hunt for new attacker techniques (through log analysis from various sources such as host and network logs) and help develop new detection and response capabilities (Haskell, Python, SQL)
  • Triage alerts and incidents for potentially malicious activity on our environment and land mitigations to prevent such threats in the future
  • Develop workflows in our automation systems to improve the alert triage process (Python, SQL)

About you

Minimum qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled in a full-time, degree-seeking program and in the process of obtaining a Bachelors, Masters or PhD degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science or a related cyber security field
  • Interest and enthusiasm for detecting and mitigating internal and external threats, threat intelligence, malware analysis, incident response and digital forensics
  • Experience and proficiency in programming languages. Preferred languages are: Python, PHP, C/C++, Haskell or any functional programming language, and SQL

Preferred qualifications

  • Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship/co-op
  • Contributions to the security community are a huge plus (research, blogs, presentations, open source tools, etc)
