This role is responsible for leading on GIS-based data solutions to inform our land-use decision making, coordinating data collection, embedding new systems and producing high quality reporting and analysis on the business’ performance, helping us achieve our sustainability goals. The role will support each of the rural estates with their own data collection, mapping, analysis and reporting needs, as well as ensuring consistency and best practice standards are applied across all locations. The role will also support all internal and external sustainability reporting and publication needs.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead on spatial data collection and analysis, to assist the rural estates in strategic planning and land-use decision making projects.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of a sustainability data reporting platform and interact with other systems across the business.
  • Create and use Excel-based models and data visualisation tools to analyse and report on a range of sustainability data.
  • Interact with other teams to ensure sustainability reporting requirements are embedded in business processes, automating data flows where possible.
  • Conduct the analysis and reporting of sustainability data to support internal business KPIs and external reporting and publications.
  • Support Grosvenor’s teams across the Eaton, Abbeystead and Reay Forest Estates, as well as sustainability consultants, to deliver internal and external reporting requirements and initiatives.
  • Share and provide insights and analysis in a transparent and engaging way that will help drive forward progress against our goals.
  • Provide training on GIS and other systems to colleagues where necessary.
  • Collaborate and communicate with confidence to multiple business teams.
  • Undertake related general administration, including arranging internal and external meetings, managing contractual information for projects and tracking consultants’ workflow.
  • Any other role specific responsibilities defined by the Head of Sustainability.

Essential skills and attributes

  • Be comfortable working with GIS and large, complex data sets; organising and analysing them and presenting results simply.
  • Work closely with the Head of Sustainability, Grosvenor Rural Estates teams and Grosvenor Group colleagues to support reporting requirements, particularly regarding carbon emissions reduction.
  • Work with multiple business teams to identify where additional analysis and insight would be beneficial.
  • Keep up to date with the latest industry changes related to environmental and social measurement and monitoring, to identify and adopt best practice.
  • Work effectively with our sustainability consultants and escalate issues when required.

Additional information

This role requires the role holder to have:

  • A degree-level qualification in geography or natural sciences, including GIS expertise, or equivalent work experience.
  • Advanced skills in ArcGIS Pro and experience of manipulating spatial datasets.
  • Strong data management and analytical skills with the ability to efficiently manipulate and make sense of large datasets.
  • Advanced skills in Excel and data visualisation tools (e.g. PowerBI, Tableau, etc.).
  • Experience of working with natural capital, biodiversity and/or ecosystem services data.
  • Experience of working with carbon emissions and/or energy data management systems.
  • Solid management experience with the ability to organise and plan workload effectively.
  • High level of attention to detail but the ability to step back and observe the bigger picture.
  • Ability to understand and analyse technical concepts but explain them simply in a relevant way.
  • Genuine interest in and passion for environmental and social sustainability, and specifically Grosvenor’s sustainability commitments.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills and to be personable.
  • Initiative to build successful relationships with and across internal teams, and to be a self-starter.
  • A full UK driving licence.
