Great opportunity to join our dynamic and developing Design Team.

As a forward-thinking in-house business unit, our Hampshire Engineering Services offers a range of services to the County Council and other public authorities. We provide design, project management, and financial/contract management services from early stages of a project through to supervision of actual construction.

The role

Our Structures Design Team is looking for a highly motivated and technically strong Graduate Engineer looking to continue his/her professional development and enhance their structural design skills. We have a great team environment, and we enable those with ambition to reach their full potential through a structured training programme and by working on challenging bridge design and maintenance schemes.

Working in the Structures Design Team, you will be directly involved in the design of a wide variety of bridge replacement, strengthening and maintenance schemes, as well as the inspection and assessment of over 1750 highway structures. You will be working closely with a Senior member of the team and will have the option to join our graduate training scheme to help you achieve Chartered Engineer status with ICE or IStructE.

You will be an enthusiastic individual with a good degree in Civil Engineering, an understanding of relevant design standards (Eurocodes) and a desire to pursue a structural engineering career. You will also have excellent communication and relationship management skills and an ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of peers, colleagues, and stakeholders.

We have recently completed a £5.5M bridge replacement scheme in the New Forest and our current projects include design of a new integral two span continuous steel composite deck bridge (£26M scheme), a £25M refurbishment scheme of 4 major structures spanning the River Test and Network Rail tracks, and several small bridge and footbridge deck strengthening and replacement schemes (100k to £1M). Future work will include among others, a multi-million pound railway footbridge replacement project and refurbishment of a 33 span concrete bridge.
