About the role

We are looking to recruit a Graduate Building Services Engineer into our London office to become an integral part of our expanding design department. We are an established building services design and commissioning consultancy and are offering the right candidate the opportunity to develop their career and gain invaluable experience whilst working on a variety of projects across all sectors for some very prestigious clients.

What you'll do

Working as part of the design team the key elements of your role will be:

  • Assist in the completion of designs from initial concepts through to detailed design.
  • Assist in the development of specifications.
  • Assist in product selection and the production of detailed equipment schedules for issue with the discipline specific designs
  • Produce detailed calculations and through training and mentorship, become proficient in both long hand and software methods of calculation related to their discipline.
  • Promote sustainability and energy efficiency within their designs and discuss the appropriate systems to implement with the senior team members.
  • Accompany and assist others carrying out surveys
  • Accompany others visiting sites as required to gain an understanding of the installation process
  • Be able to demonstrate exceptional technical and report writing skills.
  • Work in co-ordination with all other design team members whether internal of external.
  • Attend design team meetings as an observer.
  • Develop an understanding of the limits of our duties under any commission and at various work stages.
  • Develop an understanding of project risks and requirements under CDM.
  • Implement AR&P QA procedures under the direction of the Design Manager and fully understanding our design processes at a project delivery level.
  • Check their own work for compliance with good practice and the project brief.
  • Present their work to the Senior Engineers for approval prior to issue.
  • Develop an understanding of project costs and the impact of designs on the overall budget for the scheme.
  • Participate in value engineering sessions.
  • Assist others with defects inspections and snagging.
  • Assist Commissioning Engineers in the witnessing of commissioning for the project as required.
  • Participate in technical design reviews.
  • Assist in the preparation of room data sheets.
  • Develop an understanding of commissioning, maintenance and installation practices within the design.
  • Assist with project administration and maintenance of technical library
  • Assist with the bid and pre-qualification processes for design projects

Technical requirements

  • Demonstrate good attention to detail and show pride in the work produced.
  • Develop an understanding of the Part L regulations applicable to the discipline and how to demonstrate this through calculation.
  • Develop an understanding of TAS or IES.
  • Develop an understanding of Amtech and Hevacomp design software
  • Develop an understanding of working with RevitMEP  and AutoCAD MEP 3D design software.
  • Develop a working knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Develop an understanding of utility load estimations and negotiations with the providers.
  • Develop an understanding of key legislation.
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft office suite of software.

Qualifications

Experience, skills & qualifications

  • CIBSE / IET / IMechE Engineering Council accredited honours degree or specific Building Services Experience.
  • AutoCAD, AutoCAD MEP or Revit MEP trained.
