Unlock your passions at Cibyn Veterinary Clinic

We are a wonderful, friendly practice located in Caernarfon which is between the mountains of Snowdonia and the North Wales and Anglesey coast and beaches. It is a rural area with lots of space and fresh air. Many people are attracted by the outdoor lifestyle and activities whether mountain climbing, hiking or running, beach walks, wild swimming, wildlife watching or even finding some land and starting a smallholding.

There are good road and rail links to the wider world - Manchester and Liverpool airports are 90 minutes drive away and Holyhead port for ferries to Ireland is only 25 minutes away. Bangor is a university City with good sporting facilities and there are cinemas and theatres with good cultural offerings nearby.

Cibyn has a long tradition of supporting and bringing on recently qualified Vets and we have a fantastic, supportive team of 12 Vets including 2 CDs and 1 senior Vet, 7 RVNs, 2 ACAs and 2 SVNs. There is a very warm and welcoming team ethos and plenty of extracurricular activities within the team - dog walking, running, climbing, swimming in the nearby lake or sea and curry / movie nights for the less energetic!

The Vets and Nurses get together twice a day for ward rounds - a great opportunity to brainstorm difficult cases and share skills, experience and knowledge. Within the team, we have certificate holders in Medicine and Ophthalmology. We also have one Vet studying for ECC cert and one studying for an Exotics certificate.

We are a well-equipped first opinion SA practice. We have good diagnostic facilities - full lab including urine sediment imaging, flexible endoscope. We have ophthalmology referral on site and are very well equipped for first opinion ophthalmology with tonometry and slit lamps and a friendly team of referral clinicians for some on-the spot CPD and case advice. There are 2 clean surgical theatres and a separate dental area. There is a separate ophthalmic surgical suite for intraocular and cataract surgery.

As well as the ophthalmologists we have a Medicine certificate holder, certificate candidates in Emergency and Critical Care and Exotics and colleagues with interests in dermatology plus some very experienced and practical vets who really have seen it all over the years. Our nursing team are dedicated and capable and run nurse clinics independently as well as supporting the vets with procedures and anaesthetics. Our reception and support staff do a great job on the front line and make a massive contribution to keeping the days running smoothly

Step into a supportive start

Your normal hours of work are 40 hours per week, 5 days a week. Due to the particular needs of the business we need to operate a rota system, therefore there are no normal times of work applicable to you and your daily hours, start and finish times will vary from time to time on a rota system. The rota operates Monday to Friday inclusive. In addition, you will also be required to participate in a weekend rota and an out of hours rota.

Our graduates are supported and helped but also encouraged to spread their wings and really take ownership of their cases. We bring you in gently: shadowing more experienced colleagues for a few days to learn the rhythms of the place and get used to the computer system then starting to consult and operate but with plenty of time and lots of back up. As we are a single site practice, you will never be alone in the building until you have found your feet and all the team will help if you need it.

Our twice daily ward rounds are also a good time to chat with colleagues over a cuppa and there is often a 'floating' Vet who will be happy to help with questions and can pick up appointments / help with ops if someone is running behind. You will have regular meetings with the GDP adviser to talk through your progress and the office door is always open if you need to come and talk.

After a couple of months, you will join the OOH rota but with a Vet and Nurse backup always happy to give advice or come and help. The OOH is not generally busy but is a really good way of developing confidence in managing a case. You will have diary time for admin - calling owners, reading up on cases, looking at lab results. If you come and visit us, our more recent graduates can tell you about their experiences - the last 5 we took on are all still here and thriving.
