Unlock your passions at Moorview Vets Backworth

Our wonderful practice is located in a beautiful part of the North East of England. We are lucky to be close to the captivating Northumberland coast, surrounded by miles of unspoiled beaches whilst also being conveniently located within striking distance of vibrant Newcastle-Upon-Tyne.

Our team is a powerhouse, comprising 18 Vets, 17 RVNs, 4 SVNs, 3 ACAs and 18 dedicated support staff. Our RVNs are well-equipped, trained in schedule 3 procedures, and some have further qualifications in Behaviour, Emergency and Critical Care, and Feline Nursing. We take pride in our multiple certificate holders in ECC, Internal Medicine, Surgery, and Dentistry. Plus, we're thrilled to have a Vet who specializes in Advanced Rabbit and Small Mammal Medicine and Surgery.

Our state-of-the-art facilities include on-site CT, direct digital x-ray, two dental suites with x-ray, laparoscopy, endoscopy, and ultrasound with doppler capabilities. One of our medicine certificate holders carries out cardiac work-ups including echocardiography and ECG.

We aim to keep procedures in house and have surgeons who can perform orthopaedics and major soft tissue surgeries. We have a fantastic nursing team who ensure all anaesthetics are performed to a high standard with routine multiparameter anaesthetic monitoring, use of active warming and IVFT and multimodal analgesia, including epidurals and nerve blocks where appropriate.

Step into a supportive start

Your normal hours of work are 40 hours per week, 4 days a week. Monday to Friday between 8am and 7pm. You will also be required to participate in a weekend rota and/or an out of hours on-call rota which will include working on weekends and bank holidays.

As a team, we ensure our graduates get a high level of support from day 1. Each graduate has a dedicated clinical coach and, as well as clinical time working alongside each other, dedicated catch up time on a weekly basis to discuss any worries and talk though any ongoing cases.

Consults are initially 30 minutes for all appointments to allow plenty of time to perform the consult and seek advice from a colleague if needed. There is never any sole charge when operating and the graduate would only start sole consulting at a branch once both the graduate and their clinical coach were happy with this.

Operating is also well supported with another Vet having time dedicated to teaching new procedures until graduates are confident and there is always someone around to ask for support.

Due to the wealth of experience we have within the team, once graduates gain experience and develop specific areas of interest, we are able to cultivate these and develop further skills. We actively encourage further training, such as certificates.
