We’re reimagining the future of movement. Our vision of a sustainable future of modern luxury by design is at the heart of our next generation thinking and our new generation of talent. Pioneering apprentices, change-driving undergraduates and ground-breaking graduates all play their part.

Together with everyone who proudly works at Jaguar Land Rover, you can be the future of movement. Going from A-B is changing, for good. Can you take us there?

Technical

The beautiful shapes, sweeping curves and luxurious styles of our vehicles would be nothing without the accuracy in the technical set-up and attention to craftsmanship. As part of the Design Technical group, you’ll help to produce the flourishing finishes that grab attention wherever they’re seen, while working as part of one of our key teams: Surfacing (Interiors & Exteriors) or Cubing Engineering.

This programme will help you build upon your education with vocational training, essential skills and knowledge that will put you at the heart of the UK automotive industry. We report into Design but occupy a space between Engineering and Design. We use precise but creative software tools that will allow you to channel both your love for creation with desire for perfect production.

Surfacing (Interiors & Exteriors)

As part of our Surfacing team, you’ll create and deliver feasible A-class surface data that achieve design intent.  An A-Surface is any part of the vehicle that you can see, and touch and you could be working on interiors or exteriors, core and special vehicles.  Using clay scans, package data, Computer Aided Design (CAD) concepts and hard points, you’ll create and release a-class geometry to support engineering feasibility requirements and the final production release. It will be down to you to deliver best in class crafted optical quality solutions into new vehicle programmes and generate concept schemes using state of the art CAD systems.

On this programme you will receive intense training in ICEM Surf software for A-Class geometry creation. You will then be working in a small surfacing project team to contribute in delivery of high-quality A-class geometry on any part of the vehicle interiors working closely with designers and engineers to deliver feasible design intent production releases.  You will increase your knowledge and networks by participating in placements with our interfacing departments and grow your surface engineer skills as you attain experience and greater responsibility for component design and release.

At the end of the programme, you will have experienced the role of the surface engineer on a number of different components around the vehicle.  You will have grown your networks in Design and Engineering as you work collaboratively with colleagues across the functions. You will continue to build your knowledge and experience to take responsibility of components and groups of components throughout the Interior/Exterior as you support your Lead Surface Engineer in delivering high quality A-Surface geometry that is precise for component manufacture whilst honouring design intent.

Cubing

You will be part of a multiskilled team, interfacing closely with Design, Surfacing and Studio Engineering.
The Cubing team's roles are the production of highly accurate 1:1 scale models for the assessment of quality interface craftsmanship and production surfaces, also overlay all the A-Class Surfaces vs Engineering data to ensure the design quality is maintained before the production tooling’s kick off.

You will work for all the Jaguar Land Rover brands (Jaguar, Land Rover and Special Vehicle Operations). Cubing is a small department that interacts with multiple stakeholders across the company and with multiple suppliers. This will provide you with the opportunity to be involved as Project Leader role as well as more CAD orientated role. Also, Catia V5/V6 training will be provided. You will also have the opportunity to be involved with the improvement of the internal processes.

At the end of the programme, you will have learned multiple new skills as Project Leader in Design environment, and CAD skills with better understanding of Design A-Class geometry and Engineering geometry. You will be able to lead the production of 1:1 scale Design models, as well as be able to understand the process of how the Design A-Class geometry develops to Engineering geometry that is used to tool all the parts of the vehicle. During the process, you will work collaboratively with colleagues across the functions in design, programme, engineering, quality, etc, helping you to grow your network.

What’s required

Excellence runs throughout our entire business, and we expect you to be the same. You will have or expect to achieve a degree in Design at 2:2 or higher. We are particularly keen to receive applications from students with a degree in Automotive Engineering, Transport and Automotive Design, Product or Industrial Design or similar. But more important than that is a passion for design and problem solving, the curiosity to understand a business problem and explore innovative solutions, the confidence to champion new initiatives and be an excellent communicator.

Rewards and Benefits

You will Join us on a starting salary of £29,000, you’ll also receive a £2,000 joining bonus to welcome you to Jaguar Land Rover.
