The team
The data analytics directorate supports members and customers by providing data analytics and services, which enrich the student experience, and advance higher and further education with powerful business intelligence and analysis.
The data and content team is responsible for the survey tools that customers use to collect data, the business intelligence tools, dashboards, insights and data they use to make decisions as well as the tools that help them assess their own digital maturity. The team includes a breadth of dedicated skills and expertise, it is responsible for prototyping and delivering new data and content products as well as delivering, enhancing and maintaining existing products. Central to our approach is delivering value to our customers, ensuring we develop the right products at the right time.
The team follow scaled Agile Scrum and organise into Squads with members skills and experience mapped to delivering a subset of our portfolio. We maintain a Skills tree and actively promote skills acquisition and diversification. We’re a supportive bunch, we have fun, there’s a wide variety of work to get involved in.
About the role
You will work as part of a data and content development team, overseeing the development of a portfolio of products within the Data Analytics directorate (specialising in the delivery of insights through, for example, dashboards and visualisations and custom data extracts) using knowledge of various software tools that provide value to, and delight, our customers. The role will work alongside the Data and Analytics Developers, working together, to grow, maintain and develop a suite of visually impressive and beneficial dashboards for our customers.
Other responsibilities will include:
- Work as part of Scrum development teams to prototype, develop, launch, maintain and enhance a portfolio of data analytics products that are quality assured, user focused, automated, reliable and secure
- Understand product vision and sprint goals and to input into sprint backlogs that are understood by everyone, and deliver potentially releasable increments of product
- Create statistically valid, user friendly visualisations and dashboards
- Learn and excel in methods for managing data across all parts of the development process
- Gain knowledge to understand the national data landscape to inform product development
- Create project documentation, document code/ visualisations and user support materials to agreed standards;
- Provide support to the Customer Success team in relation to user enquires relating to products
- Get up to date with technologies and practices through formal external training, on the job training, interaction with co-workers and self-learning;
- Work collaboratively with external bodies in the UK and internationally and where applicable foster partnerships with these bodies to inform product development for Jisc’s customers

We are looking for:
- A good understanding of GDPR
- Ability to use technology to manipulate data and derive insights
- Experience in producing dashboards, data visualisations and documentation
- Experience of Python or R for processing and analysing data; using statistical analysis eg SPSS
- Advanced Excel skills
- Experience of /understanding of the issues of working with personal data
- Web development
- An ability to act and work independently and as an effective and enthusiastic team member
- The ability to exercise initiative and self-direction, show a high degree of responsibility and effectively prioritise a busy workload
- Identifying and evaluating software tools to solve problems
- Enjoy working in a fast-paced, growth environment and comfortable with building out new processes and optimising them
