As a Trainee Assistant Buyer, you'll assist and support our Buying Teams to carry out the processes of planning, selecting, administration, supplier and store liaison to achieve the overall department objectives.

  • Set up new supplier account details, ensuring all suppliers are aware of and understand Matalan’s requirements, communicating any issues to your Buying team.
  • Liaise with suppliers to chase Red and Gold samples to ensure timely deliveries in line with the critical path and maintain an organised and tidy sample room.
  • Conduct online and in-store benchmarking of key competitors to ensure we are offering the latest trends and products at the best price.
  • Raising and tracking purchase orders
  • Preparing product rooms for meetings
  • Ad Hoc Administration Duties

About you

To find the best people for our Buying teams, we’d like you to have the following:

  • A fashion or textile related qualification (degree level equivalent or above)
  • Retail and/or Buying experience would be advantageous
  • Commercially focused
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate at all levels
  • Ability to work independently
