MI5 keeps the country safe from serious threats like terrorism and attempts by states to harm the UK, its people and way of life. We carry out investigations by obtaining, analysing, and assessing intelligence, and then work with a range of partners, including MI6 and GCHQ to disrupt these threats. Through our protective security arm, we provide advice and guidance to government, businesses, and other organisations about how to keep themselves safe. As a Security Officer, you’ll welcome staff and visitors to our organisation and help to ensure the safety of our people, places, and property. You’ll be meeting a wide range of people every day, providing a calm and professional presence that enables everyone to feel safe and secure.
It’s interesting and varied work – and every day will be different. Your day could include anything from processing visitors and checking vehicles, to monitoring CCTV and completing accurate record logs. At all times, you’ll be keeping an eye out for anything unusual. And, you’ll get extensive training tailored to meet your needs and build great relationships as part of a supportive, inclusive team. You’ll be required to stay within the security team for a minimum of 5 years, during which time you’ll have opportunities to study for formal, accredited qualifications, apply for promotions, or explore a career in other parts of the organisation after your placement.
We’re looking for people-focussed individuals who thrive in a team and who are keen to learn. You will also be used to dealing with a range of people and a variety of situations. You don’t need any previous security experience, but you will have good customer service skills, an eye for detail, some basic IT skills, and the ability to stay calm under pressure. Importantly, you’ll have a minimum grade C/4 or above in GCSE English. Please note that you’ll also be required to have, and maintain, a reasonable level of fitness. As part of the recruitment process, you’ll need to complete a Fitness for Role assessment to evaluate your fitness, eyesight, and hearing.

This is a full-time role and you’ll be working either day shifts, Monday to Friday, or a 12 hour rotating shift pattern.
