You will be part of the Climate & Environment Portfolio in the International Development Unit, which is a growth portfolio created to respond to the opportunity to support the flow of international climate finance from developed to developing countries, which has doubled in the past 5 years and is at the top of the agenda for COP26.

About the role

Our clients include Platinum and Gold clients in the ID sector, such as the FCDO, World Bank and Asian Development Bank, as well as new and emerging bronze clients with significant climate and environment pipelines. The portfolio is also committed to supporting technical teams around the business to integrate climate considerations into projects for their clients and we are supporting teams in all Regions to do this.

You will be responsible for providing technical input and project management support to ongoing international projects. As an area of the business identified for growth you will also be closely involved in our business development activities. You will also have the opportunity to support the Global Climate Change practice by working with the practice Discipline leads for Climate Policy & Finance and Climate Resilience & Adaptation as well as the ISMA regional practice lead. This will include supporting the implementation of our Group commitments on climate change, engaging with international bodies and initiatives as well as supporting the development of our service offerings and toolkits for clients.

Willingness to travel overseas on both short and long terms assignments, when it is safe to do so, is an advantage.

Candidate specification

A Master’s degree in Climate Change, Environmental Sciences or related field

Some experience in the implementation of projects in the field of climate change adaptation or resilience, carbon management or climate change mitigation. An understanding of climate science and how this should be applied to our projects. Fluency in written and oral English. Clear, concise writing style and experience in proposal writing for specific audiences.

Ideally you will have experience of working in a developing country, and the ability to respect and work well with people from different cultures and backgrounds as well as some experience interacting with clients. Ability to work under tight deadlines and demonstrated strong time-management skills Excellent organisational, motivational and management skills Demonstrated experience working in a diverse environment, with collaborative approach and working across sectoral and regional boundaries. You will need excellent people skills with the confidence to participate actively in internal and external meetings.

The newly established Climate & Environment Portfolio within the International Development Unit is looking for an Early Career Professional to help support our projects, our business development activities and the Group’s Climate Change Practice. The IDS Unit works in developing countries to alleviate poverty, establish good governance, and increase access, capacity and resilience in healthcare, education, water, infrastructure & trade, inclusive growth and climate & environment.
