About the role

Mott MacDonald is looking for a Data Analyst to help deliver digital solutions in line with the business requirements.

The team is focused on helping our clients in ‘Realising the true value of information’, how it can improve their efficiency and provide for better outcomes for projects and management of existing assets.

You will help shape solutions according to client needs and manage their successful delivery, reaching back into the wider business for access to our deep domain knowledge, coupling this with the digital capability located within the business. The role is crucial as it will be acting as a conduit between the business and the digital worlds.

Our new and fast-growing Advisory Data Analytics is working globally, both client-side at the enterprise level and across major programmes, on exciting projects of national importance in infrastructure. Our purpose is to help clients collect, analyse and report on Project Management data such as risks, schedules, and costs. We have a start-up like environment: there is a fantastic opportunity to grow and get exposure to the variety of different responsibilities. What you will contribute to the team

The day to day activities in the role will range from gathering data through ETL processes to building BI reports using Microsoft applications.

We are looking for candidates who are keen to share their experience to date in the application of data analytics, modelling and business intelligence related data design.

A key input would be receiving requirements from relevant stakeholders and building a project plan around the deliverables. You will first be conceptualising from a high level the business need and then executing a data strategy to fulfil that need.

Candidate specification

Required for the position of Data Analyst

  • Experience in full life cycle BI projects, from consulting and needs analysis gathering through to development and delivery. With proven design, delivery and deployment experience of Business Intelligence projects.
  • Strong extract, transform and load skills, with the ability to summarise and prepare data to feed BI models.
  • Experience of ETL and data integration processes must include the use of tools such as SQL Server Integration Services or ETL using Power BI or Excel PowerQuery.
  • Data modelling (SSAS, Excel/PowerQuery or Power BI) experience is essential with a high level of proficiency in Data Analysis Expressions (DAX) with demonstrable capabilities in this area.
  • Working commercial knowledge in Business Intelligence projects using Microsoft Applications.
  • Experience in data querying using SQL on different platforms, such as using SQL within Power BI, in SSIS or SSMS.

Preferred, but not required

  • Knowledge of Agile process and principles, Professional Scrum certification is desirable
  • Ideally the candidate would have experience in creating data services such as SQL databases/warehouses either as PAAS or IAAS services and working with Active Directory
  • Working commercial knowledge in Business Intelligence projects using Microsoft Applications.

The Unit delivers services to projects ranging in scale and complexity up to £20bn, through the technical disciplines of Programme Management, Project Management, Project Controls, Scheduling, Cost Management, Estimating, Infrastructure Finance, Management Consulting, Digital Consulting and Education, Health and Care Management.
