Payments are responsible for the end-to-end Payments offering to our members, because of this, the Payments Graduate scheme will give you experience in a wide variety of roles, covering the whole Payments journey - including exposure to: Industry and Regulation; Strategy; and Service.

    What you’ll be doing

Within the Industry and Strategy team, you’ll gain experience on how the Payments industry works – with exposure to the Authorities and Regulators. You will be involved with looking at opportunities to further develop our services to respond to evolving member and regulator demands, whilst also contributing to our future payment strategy - shaping and developing how payments will work in the future. And if data, reporting and insight appeals to you, you’ll enjoy time with the Business Management team, who play a critical role in producing forecasts and MI - offering invaluable insight to our payment services, product, and mission teams, and well as delivering critical regulatory and performance reporting that is used across the business.

Working within the Service teams, you’ll get experience in the day-to-day running of a payments service – from supplier engagement and management, ensuring that our payment services are available to our members 24x7 - as well as gaining knowledge of the technical aspects of Payments processing. Your good communication skills, ability to build strong and trusted working relationships, and passion for delivering great service for our members, will be invaluable in advising stakeholders both internally and externally on the best course of action. The role will also include looking at opportunities to improve our existing services in response to our ever-changing member behaviours, whilst also delivering our future payment strategy.

This programme will help you develop essential skills in so many areas – business acumen, as well as communication and influencing skills that you will develop working with internal and external stakeholders.

Whichever placements you take on, we’ll work with you to develop your technical, business and interpersonal skills, with an end destination role after the two years within one of these three areas.

    About you

We’re all about the power of the collective, so you’ll be using your good communication skills to build strong and lasting working relationships. You’ll be a quick learner, inquisitive, always focused on solutions and have the tenacity to bring them to life. In this digital age, we need people who are familiar with all the apps and devices that make our world go around too.

Our members are at the heart of everything we do, so a passion for providing excellent customer service is a must. The path to the right result is rarely straightforward so you’ll have to be comfortable navigating challenges and managing ambiguity. As a high performing, ambitious deliverer, we’ll rely on you to be decisive, organised and proactive.

We’re also interested in who you are as a person. Why? Because our membership is made up of so many different kinds of people, so we want our employees to be just as diverse.

    The extras you’ll get

As well as a permanent contract and a competitive starting salary (£28,000 pa), as a valued member of the team we offer you:

    • A personal pension – if you put in 7% of your salary, we’ll top up by a further 16%
    • Up to 2 days of paid volunteering a year
    • Life assurance worth 8x your salary
    • A great selection of additional benefits through our salary sacrifice scheme
    • Access to an annual performance related bonus
    • Access to training to help you develop and progress your career
    • 25 days holiday

    Why work at Nationwide

We’re different from other financial service providers. We’re a building society, owned by our members. And for over 130 years, we’ve supported those members to make the most of their money and achieve what they want from life.

That’s reflected in the way we work here at Nationwide. We come together to make sure we’re doing things in the best way possible, both for each other and for our members. If you join us, you’ll be part of that. You’ll be able to help us build something really quite special. And you’ll have the opportunity to make a real difference.

On top of that, we always want you to be yourself. To use your skills and experience to make our Society stronger. To feel valued for who you are, not just what you do. Because here at Nationwide, we understand that we can do more together than we ever could alone.
