What you’ll be doing
On the Audit programme, you’ll develop towards the role of an Audit Senior over a 3-year period gaining the knowledge, skills and network our Audit function requires.
The programme journey will include working as part of a team to deliver audits to a high standard. You will use your communication and influencing skills to present your findings to senior management and agree on the actions that should be taken. Your analytical skills will also be used in spotting areas for improvement in the focus and/or efficiency of the team’s work, whilst your influencing skills will be called into action in presenting these potential improvements to the business.
To support your journey to become an Audit Senior you’ll have the opportunity to obtain a recognised Internal Audit professional qualification.
1st year
During your first year you’ll build a foundational understanding of Internal Audit, paving the way to success in your following years. You will be in the equivalent of an Audit Associate role where you will work as part of a team to deliver audits to a high standard. We will support you as you start your Level 7 Apprenticeship in Internal Audit, providing you with first-hand experience and mentoring from one of our Senior Leaders.
2nd year
In your second year, you will have the opportunity to build on your understanding of Internal Audit as you continue to work with our audit delivery teams. You will enhance your new skills and broaden your experience as you take on more challenging assignments and step up to contribute more substantially providing greater insight and taking ownership of your work. By the end of this year, providing you have shown success in your studies and your work is meeting the high standards expected of our auditors, you may be able to apply for an Audit Senior role.
3rd year
In your final year, you will have the opportunity to specialise in your chosen area of Internal Audit (e.g., IT, Finance, Economic Crime, Data Analytics, Quality Assurance, etc) while honing your Internal Audit skills. You will take on more responsibility and will work closely with the Audit Manager to lead audit assignments and coaching junior team members, building strong and lasting working relationships within Internal Audit and across Nationwide.
Having developed skills that display your competency within Internal Audit over the three years, and successfully completed your Level 7 Apprenticeship, we would expect you to be well positioned to obtain an Audit Senior role. As you roll off this programme, you will continue to be supported with development opportunities such as study support towards specialist professional qualifications linked to your chosen specialism, as you work towards the next step in your career journey with us.
