    Our 12-month placement gives you a valuable first look at what it’s like to work here, with real responsibility and accountability. We’re looking for undergraduates to join our IT Industrial Placement where you’ll be aligned to one of our key technical areas. You could be placed in any of the following areas - Engineering, Security or Data and Analytics.

    We view our IT Industrial Placement as a potential feed into our Technology Development Programme so if you want further development and a career after university this is a good place to start.

    With all our Early Career opportunities, you will not need to relocate. At Nationwide, where we work is led by what we’re doing.     What you’ll be doing

    During your IT Industrial Placement, you’ll be aligned to one of our key technical areas. We’re investing more than ever in the future pipeline of engineers, so we can keep Nationwide at the forefront of innovative leading-edge technology.

    You could be placed within any of the business areas described below;

    Data and Analytics

    In Data and Analytics our colleagues work to predict future patterns and behaviours using data. We use data to uncover new insights and then tell that story to inform decisions for our members. We transform raw data into something truly meaningful for the business, managing and protecting it at every stage.

    Security

    The Security & Resilience team plays a critical role in ensuring we keep secure our members money and data. We are made up of several specialised teams, each playing a critical role in maintaining our service availability and trusted reputation.
    You can expect the role to be varied, challenging, energetic and rewarding, coupled with opportunities to work across the team within our Security Operations Centre, Cloud Security, Technical Vulnerability team or working with our Consultancy team to help secure our products and services.

    Engineering

    Over the course of a 12-month Industrial Placement you will experience a range of software engineering practices. You will work with experienced engineers and discover how they overcome complex problems. Working in an Agile environment, you will learn state-of-the-art software design and programming technologies. You will work as part of a team and hone your project management skills as well as coding. In a fast – paced, customer-centric environment, you might be working with front-end technologies such as React or JavaScript or take a back-end route with .Net or Java. You may also be exposed to more backend technologies such as Cloud or Infrastructure Engineering.

    About you

    We’re looking for people who want to develop a career in IT and have the passion and determination to grow and learn. We’re interested in your ability to shape your own career.

    We don’t ask for you to be studying towards a certain degree subject for our Industrial Placements. However, you must be at university and looking to complete this placement as part of your degree, returning to university for your final year once this placement is completed.

    You’ll be using your good communication skills to build strong and lasting working relationships. You’ll be a quick learner, inquisitive, always focused on solutions and have the tenacity to bring them to life.

    You’ll thrive in this Industrial Placement if you have:

    • Studied for a STEM subject (Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths)
    • A keen interest in computer science and information systems
    • Drive to learn and improve and are looking for a challenge
    • A positive, tenacious and solution focused mindset
