Job overview
This role is for a Junior Engineer within our Technical Services function which focuses on the Flight Data Domain of the Systems Engineering Practice. This department enables us to meet our challenges in delivering major change and sustainment activities in support of operational ATM (Air Traffic Management) systems.
The successful candidate will support transformation projects / assets sustainment projects. As Junior Engineer within the Flight Data Domain you will gain experienced in working with Flight Data Processing Systems (NAS, NERC, iTEC), Controller Tools (iFACTS, FourSight) and Data Communications Systems (Air Ground Data Link, OLDI messaging/COFFEE etc.), and related systems. This will help the candidate to build a strong knowledge base of how the Air Traffic Industry works and all its ins and outs working in one of the Lead Companies within the Industry.
Other duties include
- Support with requirements management and elicitation.
- Support to with creation and updates to technical documentation.
- Working with Suppliers in managing technical delivery.
- Working with other project teams to deliver a harmonised solution through a Service Orientated framework.
- Service Management, Service NOW (useful), ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) Processes
Essential skills and experience
- Minimum academic requirement is Level 3 of the National Qualifications & Credit Framework for England, Wales and Northern Ireland (or its equivalent), e.g., BTEC National Certificate (in an Engineering discipline) or have equivalent credits in ‘A’ Levels in Mathematics, Science or Engineering related subjects; together with knowledge of technical issues associated with the role.
- Good technical, written, and oral skills are required with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with tact and diplomacy at all levels.
- Problem solving ability, both theoretical and practical.
- An understanding of budget management
Desirable skills and experience
- Knowledge of Systems Engineering and delivery of complex technology change, ideally in a safety critical environment is beneficial
- Prior background Air Traffic Control systems.
- Exposure to designing, delivering or deploying safety critical or safety related, high-availability solutions
- An understanding of ATM Data Communications Systems
- Experience with Linux and/or Windows, and Operating System configuration
- Basic understanding of TCP/IP infrastructure, e.g., client/server relationships, difference between subnets, LANs and WANs (Wide Area Network)
