The role

To assist and support the company’s data driven culture through the extraction, analysis, presentation and interpretation of innovative, timely and relevant data. Support internal stakeholders to drive improved performance and more accurate strategic decisions through the use of a range of advanced analytics techniques.

Job specification

  • Extract, check, clean and transform data to support a range of analyses and to meet defined requirements in line with policies, procedures and standards. Employ quality control processes to ensure outputs are fit for purpose
  • Advise and support departmental colleagues and managers by investigating internal and external data, to identify opportunities and threats to company and departmental strategies so that the business can take informed decisions about its future direction and strategy
  • With direction from management, design, build and continuously develop Data Science initiatives to provide actionable insights, presenting interpretations in a clear and concise manner to enable key stakeholders to make data driven decisions. Initiatives could include (but are not limited to) using techniques such as clustering to form advanced segmentation models bespoke to NFU Mutual customers, building propensity models for initiatives such as cross-sell, and enhancing forecasting processes with statistical methods.
  • Build, develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders in business departments, through regular contact and effective communication in order to understand business issues, manage expectations and maximise added value from internal expertise and data
  • Maintain and improve relevant processes in line with Company policies
  • Help deliver training and communications for MI / analytical system users, designed to ensure users are up-to-date and able to use them effectively
  • Delivery of short term / one-off projects and activities as required by and to the standards and outcomes agreed with line manager

Person specification

We’re looking for talented graduates with an interest in data science that are able to demonstrate skills that cover the following:

  • Strong numeric, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent communication and organisation skills
  • Enthusiastic with a “can-do” approach
  • Proactive approach to learning and ability to pick up new skills quickly and effectively with the right training
  • The ability to be flexible, self-motivated and reliable
  • An impeccable attention to detail
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications

Qualifications

You will have a minimum 2.1 degree, or post graduate qualification, in a subject with high numerical content, such as mathematics, statistics, the sciences, engineering or relevant experience in the field.
