QinetiQ comprises teams of dedicated people; experts in defence, aerospace, security and related markets. We draw on our extensive technical knowledge and intellectual property to provide the know-how and support to solve some of the world’s most challenging problems.  Our people make the critical difference to customers by providing unique approaches to problem solving.  Why don’t you join some of the world’s finest scientific and technical minds and help us make tomorrow work today?

As a Safety Engineering graduate in QinetiQ you will have the opportunity to join our highly skilled team of Safety Engineers. You will be able to contribute in supporting the work we do to ensure that any platform, equipment, or product is safe to operate and that the user knows how to operate it safely.

This is not Health and Safety, but about in depth analysis of how the product is designed to operate, looking at what the potential hazards are, analysing risks and defining mitigations to reduce the risk of harm and damage. The job satisfaction is in knowing that the aircraft, ship, submarine, land vehicle or weapon can operate safely because of your input. Our people make the critical difference to customers by providing unique approaches to problem solving.

Role

As a graduate Safety Engineer at Boscombe Down you will be expected to learn how we operate and gain systems knowledge to best place you in a Safety Engineer role. You may specialise in a particular domain such as aviation, and gain specific knowledge on tools and techniques that will facilitate the final output of the project. Working with others more experienced in the team, we will give you the opportunity to experience different types of platforms and equipment as you move from project to project. This will enable you to gain experience across the military array of weapon platforms and help us understand where your interests may lay as a specialist engineer.

For the first 2 years, you will be supported by the Early Careers Team and experienced Safety Engineers. On completion of the 2 year scheme we also offer an investment opportunity to those who may be suited to further qualifications, such as an MSc in System Safety Engineering. Other training and development opportunities will be available through your role as a safety Engineer once your 2 year scheme has been completed.

Required

  • Achieved or on track to achieve a bachelor’s degree or higher degree in an Engineering or similar degree.
  • Good oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills.
  • Good team working.
