We’re looking to hire a skilled and curious writer to fill a new graduate-level role within our London-based social research agency.
If you want the opportunity to develop your writing skills to communicate the realities of people’s lives, influence policy and inspire services to change for the better, then we’d love to hear from you!
Revealing Reality is a unique and industry-leading social research agency, working with the public and private sectors to improve lives. Our work:
- ensures isolated people are properly supported and connected within their local communities, from young people with learning disabilities through to middle-aged men at risk of suicide;
- is helping shape the UK’s approach to migration and asylum through exploring the experiences of service users across the world
- informs the government’s strategy on protecting children online by exploring teens’ experiences of watching porn or sending nudes
- is transforming spectators’ experience of international football tournaments, from the World Cup to the Euros
We influence policy-makers, designers and strategists. Our work is diverse, spanning health, media and technology, environmental policy, financial capability and more.
The role
Working at Revealing Reality involves grappling with intellectually challenging subject matter and being prepared to learn a huge amount about how the world really works. We pride ourselves on being able to get beyond knee-jerk emotional responses to understand real behaviours and needs.
Our written outputs, whether reports, case studies or film scripts, are central to the success of our business. We need to tell emotive and engaging stories, communicate complex ideas so they ‘stick’, challenge assumptions and drive change.
In this role you’ll be working with qualitative and quantitative researchers at various levels of experience. There will be a lot to learn from the experienced team members around you, and you’ll be expected to rapidly adapt to challenge and change. Demonstrating the ability to grasp new skills quickly and showing initiative is always quickly recognised and rewarded.
The role will be overseen by our Owner and Managing Director, Damon De Ionno, and our Director of Impact, Rebecca Evans. Damon holds over 20 years’ experience in strategy, communication and delivering social change and he has oversight of all our projects and deliverables. Rebecca joined Revealing Reality after almost 20 years as a journalist and editor and ensures the quality of our outputs. You’ll be supported and trained by both to develop your writing, editing and wider communications skills – with the invaluable opportunity to learn from their extensive combined experience. As a new position within the business, you’ll have the chance to shape the role and where it takes you.
The core aspects of the job will be:
- Report-writing and editing: supporting project teams to produce clear and engaging deliverables
- Communications: engaging people outside of the company with our work and thinking, including boosting our engagement and reach via social media
