Industrial Placement Programme

Our 12-month industrial placement programme is ideal for students looking to complete a placement during their time at university. The placement is designed to provide you with a flavour of what it is like to work at Sellafield Ltd and although you are only with us for a year, we can assure you that you will still feel you have made a difference.

We’re looking for students who can take on true responsibility on major projects, which will contribute to our present challenge and future mission; be involved in business-critical work and experience far reach training with support from many members of the existing Sellafield Ltd community.

As part of the Industrial Placement programme you will get the chance to take part in activities that will allow you develop your skills in line with our Graduate Programme and also allow you to obtain valuable employability skills and experience.

Business & Programme Industrial Placements

We have opportunities available in Business Improvement & Programme Management;

Business Improvement

Within Business Improvement you will support the business to improve the way they do things through advising of continuous improvement techniques and behaviours. During your placement you will learn about continuous improvement tools, techniques and behaviours (used by many large manufacturing companies), this will allow you to support the business to make things quicker, easier, safer and cheaper.

This role is about making things better and continuously improving and is therefore is not targeted at a particular degree discipline or background.

Programme Management

Programme Management is the action of carrying out the co-ordinated organisation, direction and implementation of a dossier of projects and transformational activities to achieve outcomes and realise benefits of strategic importance to the business. It aligns to three critical organisational elements: Corporate Strategy, Delivery mechanisms for change, business as usual environment.

The intention of a placement would be to provide a broad overview of Programme Management.  Whilst on placement you could be supporting the Programme Manager in setting up their programme arrangements.  This may involve supporting the development of the blueprint and engaging with stakeholders, setting up the governance arrangements, contributing to the writing of the business case.  Supporting a Business Change Manager would involve facilitating workshops to define the programme’s benefits, defining the future operating state of the business area you represent, monitoring performance.  Alternatively, in the Programme Office you are based in the nerve centre and information hub of a programme providing all information, communication and monitoring activities to the business.   

Our Placement Rewards

  • Annual salary: £17,434 - £18,540
  • Annual leave of 25.5 days’ holiday plus bank holidays
