The Challenge

We have an exciting opportunity for the development of the Engineering Change process in our Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) application: Teamcenter. You will input into the creation of the technical definition, business requirements, development and testing of the Teamcenter Engineering Change workflow for the UK Rail Business.

Teamcenter is a Siemens product used for content management of documentation, creation of 3D manuals, Service Bill of Materials and control of the Engineering Change process.

The Digital Train - Trains are expensive things. Their body shells last in excess of thirty years and yet software evolves a generation in as little as three years. The systems we are deploying will bring older assets online, enhance safety, reliability and passenger comfort.

Good PLM capabilities are needed to accelerate the maturity growth in our trains. PLM integrates people, data, processes and business systems and provides a product information backbone for our company and extended enterprises.

Here is a taste of what you can expect from this internship

  • You will be in charge of technical and quality issues on the roll out of Teamcenter Engineering Change process to the Engineering Department 
  • You will take ownership of requirement gathering, workflow design and implementation of the new workflow as well as defining requirements for data migration from the legacy engineering change system. 
  • You will also input into a roadmap for the ongoing development of each module of Teamcenter to ensure that it responds to developing needs 
  • You will work with the wider Rail Systems team, and suppliers of third party systems to ensure that end-user expectations are managed and met. 
  • You will also ensure appropriate support and maintenance arrangements are in place together with the System Administrator and the Applications Manager.

The Candidate

  • We are looking for either computer science students with an interest in engineering/production or engineering students with a strong interest in digital topics
  • You will be studying towards a 2:2 or above in an engineering, IT or manufacturing related degree
  • A keen interest in technology and digitalisation is key.
  • You will be analytical with a keen eye for detail
  • You will be an excellent teammate whilst maintaining an independent perspective
  • You will have well developed communication skills both written and verbal.
