We currently have a Graduate QS vacancy within our commercial team to assist with package procurement, cost control and ensuring that the financial position of a construction project is reported accurately and controlled effectively.

What you’ll do

  • Control the cost management for project and provide financial reporting reg-ularly
  • Understand allowances for elements of work (Preliminaries, materials, sub-contract etc.)
  • Understand the contractual requirements of project documents including the roles and responsibilities of all involved and the notices required to record change etc. Ensure all required notices are issued in a timely manner.
  • Understand the forecast cost to completion, establish and use cost man-agement systems
  • Assist in risk and opportunity management (with operations team) of known and newly identified risks and opportunities for best project return
  • Prepare subcontract documentation, issue enquiries, and negotiate agree-ments including interim and final accounts
  • Provide assistance to the commercial team in the preparation of site meas-urement, reconciliation of daywork sheets, labour and plant returns, prepara-tion of subcontractor accounts and measurement of interim valuations. 
  • Utilise and comply with company procedures in relation to commercial site procedures; systems, cost control, variations of contract and method of measurement. 
  • Monthly evaluation, notification and certification of works undertaken by the supply chain. Works in support of interim valuations under the main con-tract. Participate in managing the Design Change Management philosophy in accordance with the Project Strategy to include, design change, scope variation, instruction and programme change 
  • Provide assistance with managing the monthly valuations and payments
  • Monitor and manage the issue of contract instructions, contra charges and formal notices 
  • Be aware of disputes and litigation procedures and participate in monitoring, and concluding final accounts 
  • Input into the end life forecasting implemented through internal procedures, the monthly cost / value reconciliations, the variation's procedures and the risk and opportunity management procedures
  • Maintain all records, including diaries, letters, e mails, notices, drawings site records, computer data and all archived materials 

Who you are

  • Self motivated and confident, financially astute with good communication skills.
  • BSc or HND in Quantity Surveying or other equivalent construction related subject, preferably qualified to ICES or RICS accreditation.
  • Have understanding of NEC form of construction contract.
