The role

Thales UK has an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to join our Systems Engineering Team in Templecombe.

This role will be working within one of or growing business units, Maritime Mission Systems (MMS); a team dedicated to working on some of the next generation, cutting edge sonar technologies. Our Systems team provide innovative solutions to the full engineering life cycle for Submarine, Surface Ship, Airborne and Minewarfare sonar systems, Command and Control and full Combat Systems.

This role would suit a Graduate ready to complete their studies in 2020, looking to kick start their career, or individuals with foundational experience in a related Engineering discipline with a desire to undertake a role in System Engineering.

Key responsibilities and tasks

  • Working and supported by our team of experts, you will take on a variety of responsibilities which will form part of the core of your development. You will collaborate with wider Engineering teams in Cheadle as well as work with teams across other locations. Key duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • System definition activities – requirements definition, functional and physical definitions
  • Engagement with, and presentation to, the Customer & End-User
  • Analysis of system performance
  • Product development; research & development.
  • Monitoring of emerging detailed design within various implementation teams – acoustic, hardware, mechanical, software etc
  • Preparation of infeed to system level-design reviews
  • Integration, Verification, Validation & Qualification (IVVQ) planning and execution, including platform trials from time-to-time
  • Preparation for requirements sell-off and contract acceptance with Customer
  • This role presents ample opportunity to learn and develop in Systems Engineering; unlike our Graduate programme you will not rotate around on placement.

About you

Essential

We would not expect anyone to hold all of the below, but below are some of the key attributes we are looking for in our Systems Engineer:

  • Relevant experience gained through academic or work-place activities, e.g. modelling, project work, analysis, etc
  • Knowledge of acoustic design and/or performance in underwater environment
  • MatLab, or equivalent, experience.
  • Personal drive and ambition to develop systems engineering skills
  • Strong analytical abilities with a methodical approach
  • System modelling skills
  • Demonstrable experience working as part of a team

Personal

  • Must be able to obtain Baseline Security Clearances, then full Security Cleared.
  • Full UK Driving License advantageous.
  • Looking for UK eyes only
