Applications are invited for a summer internship at the University of Manchester, funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and aimed at individuals interested in a career in medical statistics.

The role

NIHR Internships are aimed at the brightest undergraduates (e.g. in mathematics and/or statistics) for the summer and might ideally suit 2nd and 3rd year undergraduate students and students having recently graduated in Mathematics, Statistics or a closely related field with a strong quantitative component. The internship is full time and available for a period of 8 weeks between July and September 2024, although specific dates can be agreed with the successful candidate. The internship will allow the intern to gain practical experience of the work of a statistician working in medical research in the academic and clinical sectors, whilst developing their understanding of statistical methods used in medical research. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate an excellent academic record, the ability to work as part of a team, good organisational skills and knowledge of statistical software such as Stata or R.

The internship will be based at The University of Manchester on Oxford Road, Manchester and hosted by the Centre for Biostatistics, School of Health Sciences. The intern will be supervised by Dr Ashma Krishan (Research Fellow) and Dr Chris Sutton (Senior Lecturer in Clinical Trial Statistics). Please note that accommodation will not be provided for this position. The successful candidate is expected to be based in Manchester. Limited budget is available to support accommodation and/or travel expenses.
