We are looking for an enthusiastic research assistant with interest in, and a desire to analyse, genomic and/or longitudinal mental health data.

The opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic researcher to work within a field- leading team and contribute to knowledge on the genomic (genetic and epigenetic) and phenotypic foundations of depression. Applications are invited for a research assistant post focused on acquiring, preparing and analysis genetic, epigenetic (DNA methylation) and longitudinal phenotypic data from large cohort studies such as: Generation Scotland: Scottish Family Health Study, UK Biobank, The Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children and other longitudinal studies.

The successful applicant will work with senior colleagues on projects working across longitudinal phenotypic, clinical, cognitive, imaging with genomic data from these samples and will work within a wider group looking at genetic influences on mood and mental health phenotypes within the Major Depressive Disorder Working Group of the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium. This post would suit a researcher looking to eventually progress towards a PhD position or into a next level data science or public health position.

Your skills and attributes for success

  • Experience of collecting or acquiring genomic and/or longitudinal data
  • Experience of working with R or other statistical packages
  • Desire to work within mental health research
  • Excellent management and organisational skills
  • Experience of working effectively within a team and ability to work independently
