Get practice ready with Vets for Pets and Companion Care.

Leeds Birstall 24/7 hospital is looking for a recent/new graduate or 2 years qualified vet to join their team and our award-winning graduate scheme on a full-time basis. So, if you’ve taken some time out, looking to switch schemes or just completed a graduate scheme, our supportive training programme could be the answer.

This role is a excellent opportunity to pursue your area of clinical interest- whether that’s Dermatology, Ophthalmology, ECC, Feline medicine, General Practice or something else…

The role

Set up by our JVPs, Keith and Julie Leonard in 2012, we are a family run, RCVS Accredited Hospital and Emergency Service Clinic, providing OOH and referral support to 16 referring surgeries. This is run alongside a thriving first opinion business meaning we get the best of both worlds: the case variety you expect to find in a busy general practice and the opportunity to work this caseload up and provide high quality, advanced, referral level care to our patients in-house.

This variety and level of care, makes this the perfect opportunity to focus on and develop in the clinical discipline you are most interested in and, as a practice that is always looking to progress and evolve, we will support you in building up a caseload specialising in this.

Within our clinical team we have multiple certificate holders in a range of disciplines (ECC, small animal surgery, medicine and most recently a nursing certificate in dentistry to name a few) who work alongside vets of varying experience levels. We have team WhatsApp groups for clinical discussions and support and hold regular in-house CPD sessions in a range of subjects creating an environment perfect for learning and development. We have a fantastic management team, including a mental health first aider, so that our vets and nurses can concentrate on providing the high-quality care we pride ourselves on. One of nurses is also training as a life coach to provide further support to our team.

We have just finished a hospital expansion which has almost tripled the space we have to work in making this a really exciting time for our practice. We already have an in-house student nurse school which will be aided by the addition of a meeting room and CPD suite. We are also adding dedicated end-of-life suite. Alongside this we are looking to increase the services we offer which provides excellent progression opportunities.

With genuine support and emphasis on your wellbeing, you can realise and maintain your full potential in an environment that encourages a healthy work/life balance too. You’ll be supported from day one by a dedicated mentor/Vet GDP Advisor, you’ll also be able to take paid leave to attend the varied CPD programme designed by vets specifically for new graduates. As you build your confidence in caring for pets and their owners, you’ll grow your own client base and see the continuity of cases with the support of your wider team. You won’t be in sole charge of cases until you’re ready.

As a standard on the Graduate Development Programme we offer a 2 year programme with no financial tie-ins, a generous starting salary (depending on experience), with reviews each year on programme, 10-12 clinical/non-clinical structure CPD days a year with covered travel costs, access to wellbeing support and free membership of wellbeing app and support with practice transfer should the need to arise. We also arrange fun social activities where you can engage with your fellow graduates!
