The Regulatory Department is very diverse,offering a broad range of expert advice to organisations and healthcareprofessionals facing disciplinary action, criminal allegations and professionalregulatory sanctions, as well as DPA requests and inquests. This is aunique opportunity to join our top-ranked team of medical defence lawyersproviding a national service to healthcare professionals.

The role will primarily focus on assisting the Medical Defence Team with the management matters relating to doctors and dentists on behalf of their medical defence organisation, and private clients. With our diverse offering, inevitably there will both the scope and need for our lawyers to be involved in work for clients outside of their core caseload

This role is based in Cardiff.

Main duties and responsibilities

Primary responsibility is to work with senior fee earners on their cases, undertaking tasks such as:-

  • Drafting letters of approach/instruction to experts, instructing counsel, collating documents, preparing chronologies, tracing and interviewing witnesses and generally assisting colleagues to manage a case load of files.
  • Corresponding with other parties and following up communications
  • Attending hearings to take notes (both remote and in-person hearings)
  • Assisting with drafting instructions to counsel and experts
  • Preparing bundles of documents on behalf of clients for Court, Tribunal or other hearings
  • Achieve set financial and chargeable targets
  • Ensure relevant deadlines, quality measures and KPIs are adhered to
  • Comply with relevant policies and procedures
  • Work in accordance with Weightmans’ values

About you

You will have previous experience as a Paralegal and a genuine and demonstrable interest in the above area of work. As the role is varied, we are looking for you to have a flexible approach to the work you do and be able to adapt to different tasks. We also require you to have:-
