Do you have experience using GIS software? Are you looking for a new job with fantastic career and development opportunities? If so, we have a great opportunity in our Business Improvement team, which is part of our Sustainable Operations and Engineering department, as a GIS Technician.
The role
As a Wessex Water GIS Technician, your role will be varied as you undertake the creation, maintenance, support and documentation of wastewater and water supply assets on the corporate GIS database, using ESRI Arc GIS.
This will include editing records in the system which will see you spending significant periods of time focusing on the screen whilst maintaining attention to detail and a high level of accuracy. Whilst performing an edit update you will need to digitise and enter tabular information, as well as undertaking topological and visual checks for completeness. Records sources will include as laid drawings, asset surveys and field-based sketches on maps.
Daily tasks will include editing our live GIS networks using data ranging from field data to Engineering drawings. Your ability to concentrate for prolonged periods, whilst maintaining attention to detail and a high level of accuracy is essential.
You will liaise with other staff, as required, to ensure data captured is of the required accuracy and quality. On occasion, you may also have to provide hard-copy maps and reports to the business.
This is an office-based role in our Operations Centre, Bath. During your initial start, you will be expected to be office-based full-time, after which flexible working options are available.
What do you need?
We are looking for a highly organised individual who has excellent attention to detail and accuracy. You will be self-motivated, use your own initiative and successfully work under moderate supervision, as well as communicating confidently with other team members and colleagues throughout the company.
Experience in the following would be beneficial:
- using Microsoft Excel, Access and SQL query tools
- good spatial awareness
- working in the water industry or another utilities industry
- using ESRI ArcGIS software.
