We have an excellent opportunity for a Hydrogeologist to join our Tactical Water Resources team.
This is a newly created role where you will work closely with the Principal Hydrogeologist and wider Water Resources team to apply and develop hydrogeology expertise throughout our group.
What you'll do
Reporting to the Tactical Water Resources Manager, your role will involve:
- providing sound support for all aspects of hydrogeology
- providing the hydrogeological assistance required to deliver operational borehole maintenance and replacement
- providing support for water resource planning and development
- supporting the Catchment Risk team in identifying and quantifying catchment (including aquifer) derived water quality risks
- ensuring that the company makes sound evidence-based investment decisions in managing and developing its groundwater assets
- working effectively and collaboratively across the business including our Operations team
- assisting with the delivery of our groundwater source investigations
- supporting the wider Tactical Water Resources team with source outputs and data management.
To effectively deliver the water maintenance programme, you'll work with the Principal Hydrogeologist on diagnosing problems with our borehole assets and start devising plans to help maintain and repair them.
Additionally, this role will involve working with a wealth of data so you can analyse and interpret data to identify and convey the hydrological and hydrogeological risks associated with the operation of our groundwater abstractions.
Your role will have a significant impact on how we design and deliver our resource plans for our business plan in 2024 and beyond.
While the Tactical Water Resources team are based in Bath, the role is regional and allows flexible working, with a mix of site and office work, the proportion of which will depend on a work programme.
What you'll need
You will ideally have two years' experience working in the groundwater sector. It would be highly beneficial if you have recent experience with chalk, however, consideration will also be given to other hydrogeological compounds.
In addition, you will need:
- a degree level qualification or above in an appropriate hydrogeology, water resources or earth science discipline
- sound scientific approach to handling and analysing data
- an awareness of the principles of field data collection design and statistical analysis
- excellent written and verbal presentation skills including the ability to write clear, thorough and coherent scientific reports
- familiarity with issues around groundwater pollution including contaminant transport modelling and prediction
- an understanding of the principles involved in the development of groundwater conceptual and numerical modelling
- strong IT skills, particularly Word and Excel
- to be a proficient and experienced user of GIS packages – ArcGIS in particular
- to have the ability to work independently as part of a multidisciplinary team, drawing out relevant data and investigation pathways from agricultural specialists (catchment advisers) to assess the impact of groundwater abstraction
- familiarity with groundwater policy instruments, eg, Water Framework Directive, Environment Agency Groundwater Protection policies and other relevant legislation
- a valid full UK driving licence.
What you'll receive
- Total pension contributions up to 20%.
- Career progression and professional development opportunities.
