    Founded on the docks of Glasgow in 1844 by James Whyte and Charles Mackay, Whyte and Mackay have grown into a company that produces and distributes some of the most respected whisky brands in the world including The Dalmore, Jura, Tamnavulin, and Fettercairn alongside our flagship Blended Whisky, Whyte & Mackay.

In Scotland, we operate 8 sites including our 4 renowned Single Malt Distilleries, a state-of-the-art Bottling Hall and Distribution Centre in Grangemouth, and a Whisky Production and Warehousing Centre in Invergordon.

    The role

    We have an exciting opportunity for self-motivated and curious student or recent graduate to join us for a paid 12-week internship this summer. In your role you’ll be involved in exciting projects that are critical to our success as a business gaining hands-on experience with experienced colleagues that will prepare you for your future career journey.

    • Scope prospect customers in identified region.
    • Learn the features & benefits of the W&M Malt portfolio and how to communicate with customers with the aspiration on undertaking a supervised but unsupported selling call.
    • Demonstrate understanding of key business deliverables on distribution, visibility, and activation.

    What you'll do

    • Fact finding – learning how to identify potential customers.
    • Journey planning – mapping out how to see customers to maximise time on the road.
    • 7 steps to a sales call – will be expected to have conversation with the account but will not be selling our brands.
    • Identifying if the account is suitable looking at competitor set.
    • P&L exposure – understand the look and feel of a business P&L
    • Pricing – how to build and share pricing.
    • Basic negation tactics – when does negation start, who has the power?
    • Selling – how to sell products based on features and benefits.
    • How to manage a call file
    • Account management & recording via CRM – record and report what is going on.
    • Resilience – what happens when you do not have a yes?

    What we’re looking for

    • You will have a full and clean UK driving license with access to a car.
    • You will be based in Surrey, Kent, Berkshire, Hampshire, East Sussex or West Sussex.
    • Currently studying in your 3rd or final year or a recent graduate
    • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.
    • An individual who is comfortable working at home with the drive to get out and see customers setting their own agenda.
    • Brilliant time management skills, and able to plan workload efficiently
    • Excellent attention to detail
    • A self-starter, who can use their own initiative
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to build relationships with a variety of stakeholders
    • Curious with a willingness to learn and ask questions
    • Commitment to their own development, with an ambition to grow
    • Experience in Wines and Spirits is desirable but not essential

    The Internship Programme runs from 5th June to 31 August 2023. We want you to get the most of your internship so whilst we will be flexible with days off for events like graduations, it is key that you can commit to the full internship with limited blocks of time off during this period. This internship will include some development and induction days in our Glasgow HQ, travel costs will be reimbursed.
