Have climate change issues ever been more important than they are right now?
The Climate and Resilience Hub (CRH) at WTW are looking for talented, highly skilled, and motivated interns to join our core Analytics team, which focuses on developing climate-related tools and products that underpin our analytics and advisory services.
We focus on integrating climate related science, policy, and hazard data with exposure, vulnerability, socioeconomic and other material information to help our clients adapt to climate change, and to encourage the transition of the real economy towards net zero and the Paris Agreement targets. For example:
- We help corporate clients integrate potential climate change impacts (both transition towards net zero, as well as physical effects) in their risk management processes to inform their management and strategic decisions.
- We support financial institutions in the quantification and accountability of climate risks and the associated uncertainty in their portfolios.
- We partner with governments and public agencies to ensure that building resilience to climate change is a key driver of the decision-making process for public spending in key sectors such as agriculture or transport infrastructure.
Key to this work is an understanding of the physical impacts of climate change, familiarity with geospatial analysis, data science and analytics and the capacity to pragmatically transform complex problems into fit-for-purpose solutions as well as effectively communicate them to clients.
The Role
The role will be to work with CRH Analytics team in developing scalable products. This work will largely support a current internal project that looks at analysing and quantifying physical risk exposure (i.e. risk that emerges by failing to adapt to climate change):
- Conducting research on climate change impacts to the agricultural, manufacturing and financial sectors and implementing analytics framework to assess those impacts.
- Conducting research to assess the risk profiles of corporate entities across different economic sectors.
- Conducing research to qualitatively assess the different ways in which hazards can impact a sector and corporate entity
- Supporting creation of presentations, analysis, and reports, as required, to appropriate standards of presentation and content despite often short deadlines.
- Support the team in helping to develop, maintain, coordinate, and facilitate strong relationships and good communication with business partners, clients, and team members.
- Work and communicate effectively within the analytics team and as part of the broader Climate and Resilience Hub.
The Requirements
- An insightful, independent, analytical mind, with a passion for minimising the impact of climate change around the world.
- Ability to communicate methods, results, and recommendations from complex qualitative and quantitative analysis to expert and non-technical audiences.
- Self-starter, ability to juggle multiple complex tasks at the same time.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Professionalism, enthusiasm for working as part of a team, and ability to interact with a diverse group of people.
- Respect for your fellow colleagues and a deep commitment to the mission and values of the Climate and Resilience Hub.
Experience in some of the following areas would be useful:
- Vulnerability to climate of key agricultural crops.
- Climate and/or natural hazards science and datasets.
- Climate policy.
- Geospatial analytical tools (e.g. GIS software)
- Risk management.
