We combine the technical innovation and engineering expertise of our software professionals with the actuarial knowledge and thought leadership of our insurance consulting business to provide solutions that help clients measure value, manage risk and safeguard solvency.
WTW’s software solutions support insurance companies and other businesses that require sophisticated machine modelling and analytics processes as they confront volatile markets and regulatory changes. Our software solutions underpin a variety of complex financial activities, including asset-liability modelling, pricing, and reserving, through to economic capital aggregation and allocation.
The role
Our 8-week Internship Programme is designed for penultimate year students.
An Internship at WTW will give you valuable real-world experience while you are still a student. It will enable you to apply your education in an environment that is both challenging and rewarding. At the end of your time with us, you will have a greater understanding of what we do and how closely our career offerings match your career aspirations. You will be treated in the same way as our new graduates receiving the same quality and quantity of work. It is the perfect opportunity to gain an insight into what you could expect if you joined our graduate programme the following year.
The programme is geared towards a structured learning environment giving students direct experience in working on real problems in a supportive team environment. Each Intern will have a mentor to support them throughout the 8 weeks. Starting with an existing problem (usually set as part of the interview process) we enhance the solution through the application of SOLID principals. As the solution is insurance domain based, we may also look at performance (benchmarking) to widen the students understanding of performant coding. This initial project work is individual in nature but with direct support from their assigned mentor, the student will be expected to present their findings back to the team and sponsors.
After the initial project the bulk of the time (usually around 5-6 weeks) will be spent on a business applicable solution involving many aspects of WTW software delivery technologies and processes. Students will be encouraged to take on greater responsibilities throughout the programme, from process oriented (running Scrum ceremonies) to specialising on an aspect of software delivery (for example performance benchmarking, testing, DevOps, security) dependent on the needs of the project. We provide the students with ample opportunities to either pair program or self-organise into sub-teams under the direction and tutelage of the mentors. The students will again present their work at the end of the project which feeds into the final selection process.
We aim to give prospective employees (via the Internship) a glimpse into the WTW mindset in providing solutions to the market, that we take a collaborative engineering approach in building innovative solutions and making the environment both creative and fun.
