Wood is looking for a skilled literature graduate to become a Bid Writer to help us win work. We will provide training to help you develop your skills to become a professional writer, delivering persuasive prose as part of tenders for new business.

As one of our specialist bid team members, you will provide editorial support to teams of engineers, project managers and environmental specialists working in a diverse range of disciplines. By helping coordinate contributors and editing their words into accessible, focused text, you will be creating tailored, effective tenders for work.

We are offering the successful candidate flexibility in location however there may be benefits to being based in close proximity to our Reading, Bristol or Leamington Spa offices in order to access the right development support, training and mentoring. It is expected there will be some travel to other UK offices, as required, to support bids. This role will suit a motivated graduate or an individual looking for the next step in their career within business development and communications.

Key Responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

  • Drafting bids by working with subject matter experts’ output and repurposing it to meet the needs of the bid, as dictated by the prospective client and tender requirements
  • Ensuring technical content is presented to ensure it is readable and persuasive
  • Assuring all bids are compliant, credible and compelling

Skills and Qualifications

Qualifications

  • A degree or diploma in English Literature, Journalism or a similar editorial discipline

Skills – Essential

  • Excellent communication skills (written and spoken)
  • Able to write reports in English
  • Editorial expertise, with a keen eye for proofreading
  • Ability to thrive in a deadline-driven environment
  • Multi-tasking – several bids will be ongoing at any one time

You will be drafting persuasive prose to clearly express Wood’s business proposition, based on pinpointing our prospective clients’ needs.

Skills – advantageous but not essential

  • Familiarity with government procurement processes
  • Knowledge of engineering, construction or environmental consulting industries
  • Ability in use of InDesign, Photoshop, SharePoint or Excel
