Securing a Summer Analyst role at Barclays - Top tips from Jolly

Created on 26 Jul 2017

We recently had a chat with Jolly, who has just graduated from Hult International Business School with a Business Administration degree. Jolly has now secured a summer internship with Barclays and has some great advice for other Bright Network members.

Why did you choose this firm?

One of the main reasons why I chose Barclays was because of their people, who I was really impressed by throughout the application process.  I also liked the fact that Barclays champion diversity within their organisation.

What was the toughest part of the application process?

During the application process, we had to participate in a case study task. I had never seen anything quite like it before, so this was a difficult exercise to prepare for in advance of the application process.

Were you surprised by anything in the process?

I was most surprised by how friendly everyone was throughout the process. In comparison to other firms,  it was by far the most pleasant interview process I have ever experienced!

What three top tips would you give your fellow Bright Network members?

  1. Prepare for interviews even before you get them. Over time, and with lots of practice and repetition, your answers will become more natural and confident.
  2. Always be yourself and be proud of who you are. Remember that you don't have to fit into a box to feel that you belong.
  3. Always be kind, helpful and considerate – you help both yourself and others by doing this!

What's your lucky charm or pre-interview ritual?

I would recommend treating yourself the day before the interview (you could go for a milkshake or bubble tea!) – because regardless of the outcome, I always want to consider it an achievement. There is no such thing as failure in life, just lessons!
