We push the boundaries of what others have defined as possible. Our engineering approach starts with different thinking. Then we continuously refine our ideas – unwilling to compromise and motivated by finding a better way. Today we employ more than 5,800 people around the world in electrical & electronic engineering, software engineering, mechanical engineering and science-related roles.

About the role

To develop new features and products in the consumer audio space we need a broad range of audio engineering skills, from electro-acoustic design to digital filters, DSP fundamentals, perceptual evaluations, algorithm design and tuning, and embedded machine learning targeted at audio applications. Whatever your specialism you will be creating the hardware and software that make our machines performant, adaptive and reliable. Working with engineers and technical experts across a broad range of disciplines, you’ll be comfortable learning from others, but also sharing your own knowledge, ideas and opinions.

Upon joining us in the internship programme, you’ll be assigned to our Audio Engineering team from day one, with a technical mentor. You’ll be working to support and evolve Dyson’s audio technologies and be given ownership of a project(s) to steer, develop and deliver with the purpose to further our team’s functional and/or technical capabilities. Some of your tasks could include:

  • Shadowing and supporting more senior Audio Engineers
  • Prototyping and demoing advanced audio features in the likes of spatial audio, ANC, hearing augmentation
  • Designing and prototyping data-driven solutions to enable audio sensing and audio logging technologies
  • Interfacing with external vendors and contract manufacturers to embed audio solutions into wearable devices
  • Setting up methods for objective and subjective audio evaluations of early- and late- phase developments
  • Bringing up audio DSP integration with hardware codecs and Bluetooth system-on-chips
  • Simulating electro-acoustical behaviours in advanced electro-mechanical systems
  • Assessing and integrating solutions for machine learning in embedded audio applications
  • Documenting all relevant completed works to a high standard for future reference.
