Graduate insight into securing a Spring week at Simmons & Simmons

Created on 7 Jul 2017

We started by asking Ben why he chose Simmons & Simmons over over firms. He explained that he had picked it out a number of months ago as it seemed highly compatible with his personality. He went on to say that it also has clear ambition in the legal market with recent expansions and new offices (e.g. in Bristol where he is is studying). The scheme was paid, packed full of events including a great bowling social, and lots of useful presentations. Which meant, for him, it was an easy choice to apply!

We wanted to know what Ben found toughest about the process, to which he responded the video interview. The reason being that it was a strange feeling talking to a camera, and "building rapport" goes out the window. It was also surprising, he mentioned, as he was expecting a phone interview. However, he did say that his favourite part was definitely the situational judgment test. Which he found challenging, but in a good way - most of the questions seemed to have no correct answer.

We also asked if he had any advice for his Bright Network members. His three top tips are firstly, prepare commercial awareness responses. Secondly, understand the firm's strategy and values. Lastly. be confident when networking

So, what's Ben's lucky charm or pre-interview ritual? A hot chocolate or mocha is always a winner.
