Tell us a bit about yourself

I am an Executive at Clearwater International. I joined the company in January 2021 having completed an internship at Clearwater in the summer between my second and third year at university. I read International Relations at Durham University and graduated in the summer of 2020. I am a keen sports woman and played lacrosse competitively at Durham; I also play hockey, sail and enjoy running.

What originally attracted you to Clearwater?

I was originally attracted to Clearwater because of its strong reputation within mid-market M&A. I also wanted to be part of a company where I would get exposure and responsibility early in my career, and after chatting to people at the firm, I realised Clearwater would give me this opportunity.

How did the intern scheme set you up for a successful career with Clearwater?

The internship was hugely beneficial as it gave me an understanding of what to expect if I was to work at the company full-time. I had exposure to a range of workstreams in the business including the typical tasks on a deal, on a debt mandate and in deal origination. I also got the chance to meet people of all levels in the company to understand its culture.

How is the graduate scheme supporting your development?

The graduate scheme is giving me the opportunity to learn on the job whilst also developing my technical knowledge in accounting and M&A. The buddy scheme is great and there is always someone to direct my questions to!

Tell us about your career journey so far.

After completing the internship in 2019, I returned to the company and joined the graduate scheme in January 2021. Since joining, I have enjoyed getting stuck in on deals and learning as much as possible. 12 weeks in I attended a client meeting with two of the partners and it was great to see the results of my work being presented to the client.

What do you enjoy most about working at Clearwater?

I enjoy being involved in a range of different projects - every business is different and it is exciting to come across such a range of businesses.

What advice would you give to applicants looking to start their career at Clearwater?

My advice would be to experience the type of work we do and understand whether you would fit into the culture. We are one big team and everyone supports each other so showing that you are a team player is key.

What do Clearwater’s values / culture mean to you?

Clearwater’s values translates into regular feedback enabling me to learn. The teamwork is strong and the company sets out to ensure that potential new employees will fit in well. Everyone is supportive of each other and that is what ultimately makes the job enjoyable.
