Tell us a bit about you and your role at Mazars?

I’m Morven and I am part of the Healthcare Team at Mazars. I joined the team in April 2019, so have been at Mazars for 4 years now. I am on the school leaver program, which means I started working full time instead of going to University and I am studying to become ACCA qualified alongside working. The Healthcare acts for Medical Practices and their GP Partners – we prepare the year-end accounts, tax returns and superannuation certificates.

What inspired you to apply for Mazars?

I applied for Mazars after doing work experience at the company, where I learned about the school leaver program. Before doing the work experience, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to study at university, or if I wanted to go at all. I wasn’t aware that there were other routes to get a job in finance without going through university. I spoke to a school leaver at Mazars who recommended it and after spending a week at the Edinburgh office, I decided to apply.

What does a day in the life at Mazars look like?

For me, each day can look quite different. I usually work in the office but some days I may work from home or attend a class for my ACCA qualification. A typical workday for me could include preparing year-end accounts, prepping for client meetings, or preparing tax returns. I have my lunch with colleagues in the office’s kitchen space, which is a good chance to catch up with people from other teams and learn about different areas of the business. We also have regular office social events which I look forward to.

What has been your career highlight so far at Mazars?

My career highlight so far has been passing all my AAT exams – this meant I became part qualified and was able to move onto the ACCA qualification.

What does diversity look like at Mazars?

At Mazars, there is an Inclusion and Diversity team which host events to learn about the different cultures and backgrounds of our colleagues. The Edinburgh office has a multi faith room and a wellbeing room. There are also a significant number of females in leadership positions.

What advice would you give to someone wanting to apply to Mazars?

Mazars is an inclusive firm and a background or degree in accountancy isn’t a requirement. Full training is provided so be keen to learn the role and study alongside working.
