About us

The Aston Women in Business Society was founded in 2014, and built when our Former President and Entrepreneur Sharena Shiv noticed that some organisations were traditionally lacking in female talent, and wanted to change this. That is why we as a society today provide a platform to bring together and empower Aston students, by equipping them with the tools, insight and network to get ahead. And, with currently over 220 members, aiming for over 250, we are constantly growing our network through inspiring like-minded females and our collaborations with various societies on campus.

Our goals

We aim to create a platform where our members feel inspired, connected and part of a community.

We provide a platform to bring together and empower Aston students, equipping them with the tools, network and insight to get ahead. Our events will give them the opportunity to:

  • Connect with experienced professionals in today’s leading businesses

  • Share career journeys, industry knowledge and top tips

  • Aspire to a successful future.

Over the past two years, we have held over 25 events on campus to engage students with speakers from leading companies such as IBM, Microsoft, KPMG, L'Oreal and many more. In the last two years we have reached out to over 400 students, and we aim to increase this further this year, being one of our goals.

Lastly, we believe our members go beyond the status-quo, and through volunteer work can genuinely make a difference through various volunteering and fundraising activities we've achieved together; from helping at a bike shelter, to raising over £280 for Birmingham and Solihull Women's Aid at our Annual Women's Ball on International Women's Day!

And, having won Society of the Year 2017/18 at our University awards, we are more than ever determined to connect, share and continue fostering a collaborative platform on campus.
